The LISD’s undergraduate International Policy Associates (IPAs) kicked off a week of activities in Poland on Sunday with a tour of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews guided by Engler-Malinowska Aleksandra. The museum, on the site of the former Warsaw ghetto, traces Jewish history in Poland from the 12th century through WWII and the Soviet era. The IPAs concluded their first half day over dinner with?Piotr Eliasz PhD ‘05, a portfolio manager with extensive experience in monetary policy research alongside Ben Bernanke and in algorithmic stock trading. Attracting technology companies to Paraguay and getting his nation into the @OECD - OCDE are top priorities. With great charisma, energy and passion for #PublicPolicy, President Pe?a argued that leaders in #LatinAmerica must be more ambitious and connect their people and economies to the rest of the world.

LISD Executive Director Nadia Crisan and Senior Research Scholar Sophie Meunier were delighted to meet with Ambassador Jüri Seilenthal, Director-General for Trade Policy and International Economic Organizations in Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today before his public talk titled “The Baltic States and Economic Security: An Estonian Perspective”, hosted by the EU Program at Princeton and co-sponsored by LISD, the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Finance, and the Program in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (REES).

Before returning to campus for the fall semester, 12 students had the unique opportunity to travel to Liechtenstein, Austria, and Germany to present original research on democracy and security to an audience of high-level representatives of Liechtenstein’s monarchy, government, diplomacy, industry, and academia in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein, and at the European Forum Alpbach in Tirol, Austria. https://lnkd.in/eFTMfgKi

I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that I’ll co-teach with Grigore Pop-Eleches the first Princeton University course in Transylvania, Romania next summer. This is an extraordinary opportunity for Princeton students, passionate about international relations, to expand their knowledge and research on the history, politics and geopolitics as well geoeconomics of Central and Eastern Europe and to engage with peers from Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu, academics and practitioners.

We had the honor to host Ambassador Dan Fried, former Assistant Secretary of State and one of America’s top experts on #Europe and transatlantic relations at Princeton’s Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination this week.?As we prepare for our upcoming experiential visit to #Poland, in mid-October, our conversation focused on Central and Eastern Europe and the future of #Ukraine in NATO and the European Union.
