#HUDSection4Adocacy The loss of HUD Section 4 funding puts our partners and our communities in jeopardy, impacting critical housing and economic programs. For over 30 years, Section 4 has been vital to nonprofit developers and community organizations in building affordable homes and strengthening local economies. Sustaining this support is key to promoting stability and long-term economic growth. LISC will continue to raise awareness about the importance of this program and encourage all who care about housing and economic opportunity to make their voices heard. Please join our organizational support letter to tell Congress that nonprofits matter: https://lnkd.in/eHR_3-6m Sign by March 19!

Meet Verna Halthon, a rural Alabama native and Tulane University graduate who worked for the State of Mississippi for 27 years before retiring. She quickly realized she wasn’t ready to leave the workforce yet and jumped at the opportunity to become a LISC AmeriCorps - Economic Mobility Corps member with support from Citi Foundation. Placed with Renaissance Community Loan Fund (RCLF) in Gulfport, MS, a #CDFI that helps people become successful homeowners and entrepreneurs, Halthon works as an outreach representative, who spends her time in the community promoting the organization’s services and resources. After Halthon passed the exam to become a HUD-certified housing counselor, RCLF hired her for a full-time position as a housing counselor when her AmeriCorps term ends. She is now soaking up as much knowledge as she can from RCLF’s veteran counselors, as she completes on-the-job training and prepares for her new role. ??? Hear Halthon talk about what she’s learned about housing counseling and how the ongoing, personalized support RCLF offers clients – both pre- and post-purchase – helps people achieve their homeownership goals.

LISC is celebrating 25 years of partnership with the National Football League (NFL) in support of youth sports development!

As you cheer on your favorite team at the Big Game this weekend, here’s something else to add to the celebration: Since 1998, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and the National Football League (NFL) Foundation have helped refurbish 14 sports fields in the Philadelphia Eagles’ hometown of Philly, 16 fields in the Kansas City Chiefs’ Kansas City, and 16 in the Big Game's host city of New Orleans—with more on the way. All these fields have been true game-changers for their communities. For 25 years, LISC and the NFL Foundation have worked together to create opportunities where they are needed most—building athletic fields in communities across the country, ensuring that kids have safe places to play, exercise, learn, and grow. At a time when youth face increasing challenges to their physical and mental well-being, investing in spaces that foster connection, teamwork, and resilience is more important than ever. https://lnkd.in/eAne6TTf?
