Melanie Stern, LISC DC's Senior Lending Officer, recently visited Miami to learn more from the Connecting Communities and Capital (3C) Miami team and their small scale development initiative. Melanie was able to tour 3C Miami's key neighborhoods, North Miami and Little Haiti, and learn more about local projects. In addition, there were many opportunities for cross-city sharing and collaboration. We're excited to learn from the insights Melanie gathered at this convening and apply them to the 3C initiative that LISC co-leads in DC!

Proud to stand with LISC DC and our community partners once again in urging Congress to protect the HUD Section 4 program. This critical funding supports the revitalization of underserved neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing, creating jobs, and driving economic growth. Investing in our communities means investing in a stronger future.

HUD’s recent cancellation of Section 4 local capacity building grants is a severe blow to the nation’s infrastructure of #affordablehousing and, if sustained, will damage local economies for years to come. For over 30 years, LISC has leveraged Section 4 resources to help local organizations develop affordable housing, support local businesses, and create economic opportunities. These funds have empowered nonprofits to upgrade their operations, expand their reach, and foster long-term growth in both urban and rural areas. We’re appealing this cancellation and urging others to speak out as well. Your organization can join our letter to Congress to help protect this essential funding for communities. Please sign by March 19: https://lnkd.in/eHR_3-6m

The sun is out and spring is near... a perfect day for a groundbreaking! ?? On Tuesday,?Jubilee Housing broke ground on the King Emmanuel Baptist Church which will bring affordable housing for returning citizens in the heart of the city. This innovative project will feature an aquaponics farm and workforce model for its residents. LISC is proud to have supported this project at its early stages with an acquisition loan. We are excited to see this community thrive among many of Jubilee's adjacent properties! #affordablehousing

"We've seen in the history of community development in the city and nationally what happens when stakeholders come together across common goals to shape their communities for the better." - Bryan Franklin, LISC DC Deputy Director Last month, LISC DC had the pleasure of hosting our 2025 Coffee Break Kick-off which convened partners, funders, and other stakeholders in the community development and affordable housing industries from across the DMV region. This space allowed us to discuss the achievements and challenges of the last year while painting a collective vision for 2025. Check out our recap video to hear about LISC DC's Project 100: Sights, Sites, and Insights initiative last year as well as from our amazing partners who are working on important projects and programs in our region.?https://lnkd.in/e6-ejpzv We are thankful to Wells Fargo, TD Bank, and Forbright Bank for their generous support of our 2025 Coffee Break Kick-off event, which would not have been possible without their contributions.
