Congratulations and many thanks to our partner, Fifth Third Bank, for launching the Small Business Catalyst Fund. "Fifth Third Bank last month unveiled an initiative to support small businesses in marginalized neighborhoods across its 11-state footprint, including Charlotte's Historic West End... LISC Charlotte is leading the support coalition locally, helping to provide on-the-ground support. "The hands-on approach that CDFIs in general are able to offer to really have a tactical approach to be the support that these small businesses and entrepreneurs need to grow," Tara Campbell, Fifth Third's director of Community Development Block Grant operations and strategy, told CBJ. "Capital alone isn't the only solution. And typically that technical assistance is really what elevates and is the catalytic push to take that business to the next level." A little over a week ago, our deputy director Albert "Rusty" Mills Mills took the stage at The Integral Group's Developer Summit at Queen’s University for a thought-provoking panel on "Vision to Execution." The discussion centered on a vital balance: profitability vs. community impact. Rusty and fellow panelists tackled the challenges of prioritizing social impact while ensuring financial viability. They emphasized the power of collaboration across disciplines and highlighted how meaningful development adds real value to communities. Curious about the insights shared?
