Can we talk about the BayHaven Food and Wine Festival developed by Gregory Collier and Subrina C.? Members of our team had an amazing time enjoying fine food and drinks that explored the Black diaspora! This year, the annual event event took place in #HistoricWestEnd and featured diverse chefs, great music, and conversations over multiple days. Thank you to sponsors including Knight Foundation and Wells Fargo who supported this cultural affair that nurtures community, highlights great talent, and supports culinary and hospitality business owners. What are we up to these days to build a more inclusive Charlotte? QCity Metro sat down with our executive director to find out more and share with you. You might be familiar with: ? Affordable housing (We are continuing to work with developers to help deliver more affordable housing in Charlotte.) ? Health and Safety (We are helping to deliver more fresh food options, access to healthcare, and other services that contribute to one's well-being through capacity building and technical support to CDCs that support residents.) ? Sports and Recreation (We collaborate with local sports organizations to deliver funding and facilities that bring the community together through exercise and play.) But did you know that we also deliver a variety of support to small businesses? ? Small business and Economic Development Small businesses are a driving force for the state of our economies and health of our communities. When they thrive, we all thrive. Our Executive Director Ralphine Caldwell took a moment to share about our amazing partnership with Fifth Third Bank and Enterprise Community Partners, which supports resident?led initiatives in West?Charlotte. The Empowering Black Futures Program has supported our grassroots partners in achieving initiatives that they imagined to be more long-term, but that are now coming to fruition. This includes projects like The Legacy at Carr Heights that offers 120 senior apartments, developed in partnership with the West Side Community Land Trust (West Side CLT) that will maintain ownership of the land.? We are incredibly thankful for our partners and the many opportunities that they are helping the community to bring to life. #TogetherwecanTogetherwewill #CommunityDevelopment #LISC

Jordan was selected based on his professional achievement, experience, innovation, leadership and community involvement. Currently, Jordan is a program officer at LISC Charlotte who oversees numerous small business partnerships and incubators such as “Shop With Us” that create opportunities and extend resources to entrepreneurs and business owners in Charlotte. We’re excited to see Jordan being recognized for his leadership, and we extend our gratitude for his dedication to the Charlotte community. You may hear quite a bit about development in urban centers like Charlotte, but great work is taking place and needed in rural communities that we also share here in the Carolinas. We invite you to join Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and The Brookings Institution for a panel discussion that will explore strategies for community-centered economic and community development in rural communities. Brookings is an American think tank that conducts research and education in the social sciences, primarily in economics, metropolitan policy, governance, foreign policy, global economy, and economic development. Details for the Oct. 3 discussion are below.

We would like to thank Dr. Valerie K. for inviting the LISC Charlotte team to the first home game at Johnson C. Smith University - JCSU. While there, we were able to support our very own intern and HBCU King, Kameron Sanders and Queen Jessica McDonald. JCSU, the Queen City’s only Historically Black College and University, rests at the highest point of Charlotte and in the Historic West End neighborhood where we are working with partners to preserve and build its culturally rich community.? Thank you JCSU and congratulations on your win!
