It has been 3 weeks since we launched the crowdfunding initiative for UTI panels and the response has been overwhelmingly positive on the choice of targets. Breaking the pathogens into groups of five has also been well-received, in comparison to large panels. First diagnostics crowdfund projects launch in response to FDA LDT Final Rule. CAP/COLA labs have viable path for new assays. Unlike other crowdfunding mechanisms, labs joining the UTI initiatives back projects by purchasing reagents. Labs should note that crowdfunding is useful regardless of litigation outcome, as upon clearance these types of assays would likely not only be easier to reimburse, but they may also provide higher revenue.
