Freshmen Civil Engineering students had a great time over the past couple weeks getting their hands dirty during Concrete sessions of Freshmen Intro Lab. During the first session, students learned about concrete mix design. They were separated into two teams to create cylinders with different water to cement ratios. After allowing the cylinders to cure, the cylinders underwent compression testing to determine compressive strength. The highest strength test result was 4,600 psi which exceeded expected values. Foley Products provided a plant tour of their Hermitage Facility to leaders from the Lipscomb University Concrete Canoe team to learn mixing and curing techniques. A group of Seniors from Lipscomb University's Raymond B. Jones College of Engineering participated in the Student Session & Competition held at the 2024 Tennessee Engineers Conference this week. A group of students from the Raymond B. Jones College of Engineering spent time volunteering at the PENCIL Facility in Nashville following a site visit to learn more about the program and their Facility. The students are part of the Senior class of students working on their Capstone, or Senior Design project. Meet Tamyra Kirby, a Mechanical Engineering student planning to graduate in May. Tamyra has been very involved with the College of Engineering on the Opryland Senior Design Team, working on Atrium Dehumidification.
