In August 1967 — eight months before the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was signed into law — the Capital City Lions Club in Austin, Texas, held their first meeting on the campus of Huston-Tillotson University, a private historically Black university and Austin’s first institute of higher learning. More than 50 men attended. The club, which they believe to be the first predominantly Black club in the United States, continues to meet on the historic campus to this day. A community that invests in its young generation is a community that thrives. Today at Sekenani Girls Secondary School, Tigal Water Splash ?? and Ingenieure ohne Grenzen e. V. continued our mission to create a better learning environment. We had meaningful discussions with the school board, addressing critical needs in water access, sanitation, and infrastructure. It was a heartwarming moment as we shared gifts from Ingenieure ohne Grenzen e. V. and received generous contributions from the local community a true testament to the power of collective effort. Beyond that, we conducted a detailed assessment, gathering data on the challenges students face daily. This information is vital as we work towards long-term, sustainable solutions that will ensure a healthier and more supportive environment for learning. Together, we are making an impact!
