“It’s like fashion. It's splurge versus save. It’s old school blended with new school,” Lara Cohen explaining Linktree’s approach to incorporating their creators into OOH. I’m obsessed with the overlap of digital and analog and have been wanting to have this conversation with Lara for a while. She unpacked the link-in-bio app’s OOH playbook for ICYMI pro subscribers. This is just a snippet of our conversation — Lara also explained what goes into picking talent for these campaigns, how to turn IRL moments into viral social content, and what brands can learn from Linktree’s approach. Link to the full interview is in the comments. LC: “Again, if you are an app, in the way that Linktree is, obviously so much of your marketing has to be digital first. You have to have best in class socials. You have to be meeting folks where they are. But I love this idea of also blending this with a very traditional, old school sense of marketing. There's something very iconic to me about a billboard in Times Square. And it has so much resonance with the creators themselves. When you're talking about, ‘Do you want to be featured on our billboard in Times Square?’ It feels like the Oscars of marketing. You're bestowing this opportunity on someone. If you are an up-and-coming micro creator, you never dreamed of having a billboard available in Times Square.”

With a growing number of US companies now backtracking on their diversity, equity and inclusion policies, Capital Brief contacted a range of Australian tech companies, VC firms and banks to ask whether they stood by DEI. Yet only?Linktree?would go on record as saying diversity and inclusion remained “fundamental to our company culture and the way we build our product”. The silence should not necessarily be taken as a sign that these companies are rethinking DEI and may be an attempt to avoid getting drawn into a culture war. Compliments mean the most when they come from people you really respect. So it means a lot to get a shoutout from Lia Haberman, whom I consider to be a true expert in the creator space. Trust me, not everyone who purports to be actually is :) In her latest newsletter, Lia calls out how we’ve reimagined marketing at Linktree this past year. We believe that creators are the most effective and authentic way to market, so naturally our Linkers have been at the forefront of our own storytelling. And Lia’s right, b2b and SaaS go-to-market doesn’t need to be — and shouldn’t be —boring!
