The Impact of AI on YOUR job! My job title is LinkedIn trainer. But very soon, maybe as soon as the end of the year, it will need to be LinkedIn AI trainer. After two years of ignoring AI, I’ve realised that if I don’t learn how to use it IN my business, I’ll be OUT of business in short order. That view has been confirmed by LinkedIn’s inaugural list of 'Skills on the Rise – a data-backed ranking of the 15 skills that professionals are prioritising now'. It predicts that by 2030, 70% of the skills used in most jobs will change. And it’s clear that change is already underway. What’s at the top of the list of skills on the rise? You guessed it. AI literacy. If we’re to stay relevant – and employed! – we need to be learning about AI, finding out how to get the results we want from it and how to incorporate that into our businesses. I was hugely resistant to begin with because of the challenge it represented to my profession – writing. The quality of AI writing was poor and the use of it to generate text obvious. That is no longer the case and I’ll often ask AI to write content I am less skilled at – like sales material. Yesterday’s article about my Link?Ability members’ community is a good example. It also writes humour far, far better than I can. But this is only one use of AI, and a very basic one at that. Now, we can have it create mini programs that do specific tasks related to our jobs or help us with them. And that’s what I find exciting. I’ve realised – belatedly, yes! – that AI isn’t about to take over my job but it can help me do it better and faster. On an event about AI recently, it was claimed that we’ll need to be 10x more productive by the end of THIS year than we are now to remain relevant and competitive. I see no reason to doubt this. Lest you think otherwise, I’m not selling anything here. Certainly not my own AI skills which are in their infancy although I did build my first AI agent or gpt this week. What I am suggesting is that knowing how to use AI will very soon become as commonplace as using Word or Outlook, something everyone knows how to do. And those days are not far away. So, while I’m building gpts on ChatGPT, creating charts in Napkin.ai, and starting to navigate my new Copilot, I’m also getting on board with LinkedIn’s own training courses. And until April 18 it’s offering this free course Learn about AI systems and how they can benefit your work. https://lnkd.in/gQuHfzzT Because no matter how we slice it, we all need to learn this stuff!
