Goodness Alert! After a particularly heart-wrenching haircut experience with our 7-year-old son, my wife Clare searched the internet and found an online interview with Vernon Jackson about his program "The Gifted Event", which provides haircuts for gifted people with unique and neurodiverse needs. Our son had never had a "smooth" haircut in his life as he is sensitive to the sounds and touch associated with getting a haircut. Let's just say Vernon is a miracle worker! When we tried to donate and tip Vernon, he said "I can't accept that - this is a gift. Please don't get on my bad side by trying to do something good.". Goodness truly exists if you keep an eye out for it. Thank you, Vernon Jackson - your goodness shone upon our family this week. May your mission be accomplished and may many others receive your goodness, like we did. I support you and The Gifted Event 100%! Linden Grove School has a 30-year history of supporting and empowering autistic students, and this April, we are proud to commemorate Autism Acceptance Month. This year holds special significance as we strive to shift from mere acceptance to genuine appreciation, empowerment and advocacy, not only within our school but also across our broader communities. In our commitment to promoting appreciation, empowerment and advocacy, Linden Grove School has embarked on a month-long internal challenge. Every day, staff are actively engaging on our social networks, sharing valuable insights, stories, and resources. With each passing week, we center our focus on a specific topic like communication or intersectionality, delving deeper into various aspects of autism acceptance.
