At Lincoln Literacy, we know that access to reliable transportation is more than just a convenience — it’s a lifeline for many of our students. Whether they’re commuting to class, work, or vital community resources, a strong public transit system can mean the difference between opportunity and hardship. That’s why we’re excited that our Senior Associate Director Donna Stadig will be attending the Nebraska Public Transportation Conference on April 21 at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She will join local leaders, planners, and policymakers to discuss how we can build a better, more accessible transit system — one that works for students, families, and all Nebraskans. By engaging in these conversations, we’re ensuring that the voices of our students and community members are heard in decisions that impact their daily lives. Partnerships like these help us break down barriers and create lasting change. We’re grateful to Donna, Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development (LPED), the City of Lincoln – Lincoln, Nebraska New Americans Task Force, Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, Asian Community & Cultural Center, Lutheran Family Services, CIRA - Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement (CIRA), International Council for Refugees and Immigrants (ICRI), Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, Omaha Refugee Task Force, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, and all those working toward practical solutions that make our community stronger. At Lincoln Literacy, we’re empowering adult learners to level up their English skills and take meaningful steps toward higher-paying, higher-skill careers in healthcare. Many of our students bring valuable experience, even medical degrees, from their home countries, yet they face barriers to re-entering the workforce in the U.S. Our Healthcare Career Pathways class helps bridge that gap, offering: ? Workforce-focused English instruction, including healthcare and medical terminology. ? Career exploration in fields like CNA, Surgical Technician, LPN, and Phlebotomy. ? CPR preparation and support in registering for certification and college courses. ? Guidance and financial assistance to continue their education at Southeast Community College (SCC), Bryan College of Health Sciences, or other institutions. With your support as a volunteer, donor, or partner, we can expand opportunities for our learners — helping them regain their careers, support their families, and contribute to our community’s healthcare workforce. Sessions: ?? Thursdays – March 6, 13, 20, and 27 | 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM ?? Wednesdays – April 9, 16, 23, and 30 | 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM Together, we’re transforming lives — one learner, one career, one step at a time. Learn more: https://buff.ly/IKKDeMf. We believe that education is empowerment — and for many women in our community, it’s the key to economic mobility and a brighter future. Through English language learning, job skills training, and career pathways, we help women build confidence, find meaningful work, and achieve their dreams. We also recognize the barriers many women face in accessing education. That’s why we provide free childcare and van transportation, ensuring that learning is possible for everyone. Some of our students come to us without ever having had the opportunity to go to school — while others arrive with backgrounds in medicine, engineering, or teaching. No matter their starting point, we are proud to serve, support, and celebrate women of all abilities and nationalities. On this #InternationalWomensDay, join us in lifting up women, breaking down barriers, and creating a more inclusive and empowered community. ?? Help us help others thrive: https://buff.ly/4bDzRim.
