We have some very exciting highlights coming out of our Language Instruction Education Program (LIEP) this fall: ? WIDA Conference 2024: We sent 12 Title III Consortium EL Educators to Pittsburgh for four days of learning, networking, and supporting presentations by Dallastown educators & administrators from our region. ? Professional Development: Presented at 13 ELD/ESL trainings this month. Hosted our Fall Translator Training, certifying 7 multilingual individuals for Educational Interpretation/Translation, led by Mariela Marcano-Muniz. ?? Collaboration in Action: Our ESL teachers hosted the York Cohort Council at YLC, working with local educators to address current challenges, tools, and needs in the ESL field. We're proud of the growth, collaboration, and impact this season! Thank you so much for all that you do! ?? #LIU12Proud

We’re thrilled to highlight an amazing partnership with Britton Coffee Co.! In the 2023-2024 school year, the New Visions Hanover Program teamed up with Britton Coffee, and it’s been a huge hit with our students. ??? Every week, students dive into responsibilities like: ? Stamping Britton’s logo onto donut and sandwich bags ?? Wiping tables and chairs after customers leave ?? Stocking the café fridge with beverages ?? Doing dishes, sweeping, and stocking milk/cream for baristas ?? Taking out trash and prepping to-go cups with cream cheese The incredible staff at Britton Coffee, especially Sammi, have been so kind and supportive! They’ve welcomed the students with open arms, treating them with respect and as part of the team. ?? This partnership helps our students grow their work and social skills, paving the way for future employment opportunities. We’re beyond grateful for this collaboration - thank you, Britton Coffee, for making such a difference! ?? #LIU12Proud

#LIU12Proud Yesterday, Sonia Pitzi, LIU 12's Region 3 Coordinator for Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH), delivered a compelling presentation at the Pennsylvania State Capitol during a press conference for the Children and Youth Hearing. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that students experiencing homelessness understand their rights under the McKinney-Vento Act, advocating for greater awareness and support for these vulnerable youth. ???? It is Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness Awareness Week! This week, we’re shining a bright light on the ECYEH program, which works tirelessly to ensure that children and youth experiencing homelessness can enroll, participate, and succeed in school - and that’s just the beginning! ?? Did you know? - Over 46,700 children and youth experiencing homelessness were identified in PA during the 2022-23 school year. - 86% of these students were enrolled in school - a crucial lifeline for housing-insecure students. ?? Why it matters: School offers stability, resources, and hope, empowering these students to overcome challenges and achieve success. ?? Join us in raising awareness and show your support! ??
