The Scenario Planning for Urban Futures course will teach you the skills to address the uncertainties in the community planning process. This hands-on program empowers regional planning professionals to create agile plans by exploring multiple future scenarios. Madeline Hiller, a program coordinator at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, shares her experience participating in the course and highlights its impact on her work in disaster recovery and urban greening. She says, "I appreciated how the instructors, Rob and Heather, dedicated time to connect with us in class and during breaks. They encouraged us to develop our workshop scenarios based on our communities back home, which enhanced the practical application of what we learned." "Planners help to shape the future of their communities. But whose futures are we planning for? Though futures literacy and foresight methods can help to create more resilient and equitable plans, if the futures we imagine aren't developed through an inclusive approach, they won't lead to a truly equitable future." #GoodRead: In a recent PAS QuickNote, the American Planning Association's Petra Hurtado, a frequent Lincoln Institute partner, and Destiny Brown explore the importance of planning for futures that reflect the diversity of our communities: https://lnkd.in/eUmwVQJY

Happy #FellowsFriday! Today's feature is Marisa Manheim, a former Babbitt Center Dissertation Fellow who is now an assistant professor of environment and sustainability at the University at Buffalo. As a doctoral student at Arizona State University, Marisa's fellowship supported her investigation of a thorny question: how do you get people to consider drinking recycled wastewater? In an interview with Jon Gorey, Marisa reveals the strategies that can help reshape people’s attitudes and actions around sustainability and updates us on her latest research. Congratulations to my colleagues in the community land trust movement (Proud Ground, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and Kristin King-Ries) for bringing this powerful model to national attention! This TIME Magazine article highlights the transformative impact of CLTs, ensuring permanently affordable homeownership and community stability for families like Christin Carter’s. It’s inspiring to see more cities and policymakers recognizing what we’ve known all along—when communities have a stake in their land, they thrive. Proud to be part of this movement and grateful for the dedication of CLT leaders, homeowners, and advocates working to expand access to homeownership across the country. #AffordableHousing #CommunityLandTrusts #HousingJustice #Homeownership https://lnkd.in/dC7FSHhA
