They’re coming for the lawyers. This latest Executive Order targets immigration attorneys and law firms, threatening sanctions, revoked security clearances, even canceled contracts, for doing what we’re ethically and constitutionally bound to do: represent our clients and challenge injustice. The government is now turning its power against the legal advocates who hold it accountable.

If you’re an immigrant, waiting until you’re detained to hire a lawyer is too late. Last month alone, I had to turn away over a hundred people who were detained by ICE and needed help but we just couldn’t get to them fast enough. And I’m not the only one. The truth is, if you’re already our client, we can help. We know your story, we have your documents, we know how to reach your loved ones, and we drop everything to fight for you. But if you wait until a crisis hits, it will probably be too late. Please, don’t wait. Talk to a lawyer now. Protect yourself now. Have someone ready to fight for you—before you need them. Call me, text me, or send me a WhatsApp and let’s get started on your safety plan: 512-599-8500 #USImmigration #immigrationlawyer #ICE #deportations

A lot of people don’t know that you can have any visa and still be turned away or detained at a port of entry whether at the bridge or at the airport. When someone is applying for entry at our bridge, every individual Border Patrol officer has a lot of authority to decide whether they will allow this person to enter the country. And some officers are more enforcement-minded than others. It’s rarer to see it happen to anyone from Europe or from the UK, but this experience is common for immigrants and tourists from South and Central America. After nearly three weeks in ICE detention over a visa mix-up, British tourist Rebecca Burke has finally been released and reunited with her family. She should not have been detained for this long. Remember to always consult with an immigration lawyer before traveling in or out of the United States if you’re unsure about whether you are violating the terms of your visa. It could save you from a lengthy stay at a US detention center. More in my interview with NewsNation below #USImmigration #usnews #uspolitics #rebeccaburke #immigrationattorney #immigrationdetention

All eyes are on the Venezuelan deportations, and for good reason. If it turns out that the administration defied a federal court order, we’re looking at a direct challenge to the very foundation of our democracy. The government claims the flights were already mid-air when the order was issued, but now that the order is clear, their response remains to be seen. We’re also awaiting concrete evidence that these deportees were, in fact, gang members affiliated with Tren de Aragua. Without that, these actions risk being another case of mass deportation under false pretenses. And let’s be clear, this is not the correct use of the Alien Enemies Act. The U.S. is not at war with Venezuela, and even if some gang members are present, that does not constitute an “invasion” under any legal standard. Using this as justification for mass deportations is a dangerous distortion of the law. #usimmigration #usnews #uspolitics #trendearagua #venezuela #deportations

Rebecca Burke, a British tourist, has been detained in the U.S. for 10 days after being denied re-entry at the border. It’s horrific and I completely understand the outrage. This case highlights how complex and strict US immigration rules can be. Every time someone enters the U.S. on a visa, they’re applying for re-entry. If they suspect a visa violation, they can refuse entry and detain the person. I also want to point out that thousands of people, particularly from South and Central America, face this kind of treatment every single day. #usimmigration #usnews #uspolitics #rebeccaburke #ICE

The administration has repurposed the CBP One app that was used for asylum seekers to make their appointments into "CBP Home," which will now facilitate migrants to self-deport. These are my initial thoughts. As always, if you are concerned this may affect you, please consult with an immigration lawyer about your case. Nobody should be giving legal advice on the internet about what whether someone should or should not register. Questions or concerns?
