Lincoln Associates' Yura Vinitsky recently collaborated with the University of Georgia (UGA) to enhance the climate control in one of their greenhouses, which was previously heated using an existing hot water convection system. This greenhouse, dedicated to growing various tomato species, required precise temperature management to ensure optimal conditions for these delicate plants without obstructing the light from the overhead glass roof. To address the challenge of uneven temperatures, we recommended the installation of an infrared heating system known for its sun-like heating characteristics and even heat distribution when applied correctly. Our first step involved conducting a heat load analysis to confirm that the necessary utilities were in place. We discovered that the existing hydronic system was gas-fired, allowing us to repurpose these utilities for the new infrared heating system. To achieve the desired even heat distribution, we opted for a Roberts-Gordon Infrared Heating Solutions CoRayVac system, a multi-burner negative pressure system requiring only a single penetration for the flue. The project was a success, with our team completing the installation without disrupting the greenhouse's ongoing operations.
