In with the old...and in with the new. That describes Linbeck's approach to the 2017 renovation of Robert Carr Chapel at Texas Christian University. Built in 1953 in the American Colonial style, Carr Chapel has stood as a campus landmark for more than 70 years. That's why preserving its history, while delivering a much-needed facelift, was a balancing act that entailed strategic thinking at every stage of the project. Replicating textures, refurbishing furniture, updating the pipe organ, and repainting plaster columns and wood paneling were among the many ways our team helped Carr Chapel shine again. Art may be irreplaceable, but roofs are! Over at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Linbeck recently removed and replaced an aging roof at both the museum’s original building (1961) and its later addition, constructed by Linbeck in 2001. While seemingly simple on the surface, this critical project required careful coordination to assure both the monumental building and its contents would be properly preserved. Noise, vibration, water intrusion, and exhibition timing were among the many factors the team needed to coordinate throughout construction. Our mission? Bring a much-needed cancer treatment facility to patients in the Midwest. In 2022, the Proton Therapy Center at The University of Kansas Cancer Center debuted to an excited crowd, as no facility of this nature had existed in this part of the country before. Today, KU's 50,000 SF Proton Therapy Center boasts a single IBA Proteus One vault and has achieved comprehensive cancer center status, a prestigious honor that only 56 other cancer care centers hold nationwide.
