The rapid growth in our field is undeniable. While many clinics are doing it right- too many aren’t. NO client, nor their families should be a recipient of “fast food therapy” while the corporate team reaps financial benefits. The number of providers has increased 700% in Minnesota over the past 5 years; scaling from 41 providers to 328. Simultaneously, the amount paid out to these providers has increased by 3,000%. We’re all about access to care- so long as it is done the right way. We need to unite and push for more policy and legislation to ensure those with autism (and their families) are protected and not swindled. https://lnkd.in/eqzq9zwy
This article is heartbreaking but sheds light on very real issues that riddle our communities. Why do restaurants have to post grades in their windows while Autism Clinics can operate without professional cleaning crews and other subpar standards? We have to do better. “I never imagined you could have a school with a bunch of kids who are vulnerable that would be a free-for-all,” said Ashinoff, a physician. “The health department comes in and looks at every McDonald’s, but nobody is going to check out a school?…. That means it has gotten no meaningful oversight and state officials have had no authority over the school — over who works there, whether money is spent properly and if the curriculum and services are appropriate for students with disabilities.”

Special education students across the nation are increasingly likely to have autism, with new data showing that the percentage has more than doubled in recent years.
Alpharetta, GA is one of many cities that utilizes Rapid SOS. Rapid SOS allows individuals to upload data regarding their medical status, and in case of an emergency, the health profile is sent directly to 911. “This information helps 911 centers manage an influx of EMS calls by displaying medical and location information immediately and provides first responders with the critical data they need to better care for people in an emergency when they arrive on the scene.” This system has proven beneficial when officers respond to calls for individuals with ASD who may be engaging in aggression and/or are non-verbal. Check in with your local PD to see if they utilize this system!
