    You know what slows down digital transformation the most? Forcing change without actually improving the process. Steven and I were talking about this, and here’s the reality: Just because you think a new system is better doesn’t mean your team will automatically agree. Here’s what Steven Nghe learned about change management in his role at Kloeckner: → What's intuitive to us ("click and checkout") feels threatening to those with established workflows. → The disconnect isn't just generational—it's cultural and relational. → Resistance often masks deeper concerns about changing trusted business relationships. So, how do you drive transformation the right way? ? Listen first. ? If people resist, don’t push—ask why. ? Their feedback might highlight real process gaps. ? Make it familiar. ? If a system feels like Amazon, call it that. ? People adopt what they understand. ? Prove the value. ? Show how it makes their life easier. ? If it feels like extra work, it won’t stick. Technology should solve problems, not create resistance. The most successful digital transformations I've seen don't start with "Here's our new platform." They start with "How might this make your specific workflow easier?" So, is your team implementing change?     "Only if you were on Shopify...". A phrase my friend Rui (Sr. Director of eComm at Aetrex) kept hearing during vendor conversations. Now, his team is making a big shift: moving from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify. Here were the two key drivers in making this significant change to their business: 1. Integration Reality → Salesforce's proprietary API means longer implementation times → Most vendors prioritize Shopify's larger user base → Integration costs: $10-20K on Salesforce vs. hundreds on Shopify 2. Speed to Market → Faster partner onboarding → Simpler implementation → More resources readily available I say this because change is hard, and decisions like this are a big deal. Finding the right technology is important, but building the right team to support you through the change is essential. I’m happy to make an introduction to Rui for those currently contemplating a potential change.     Change is hard. You know what makes it 10x harder? Bad communication. Rui and I had a fun conversation about what we’ve learned about communication (especially during change) from our client-agency relationship and our respective team relationships: ?? Over-communicate (seriously): Too much is better than too little. Make sure teams aren’t left guessing what’s happening next. ?? Create an environment where concerns aren’t ignored: The best decisions happen when people feel safe to push back and ask questions. ?? Align goals before making big change: If marketing wants to implement a new tool but finance says it’s too expensive, how do you frame it? Show them: “This will save us from hiring three more people—that’s $50K in cost savings.” Too many companies approach change with a “this is happening, deal with it” mindset. And it causes resistance, not because of the change itself, but because the lack of communication created skepticism and friction. What's more expensive—over-communicating during change or dealing with the fallout of under-communication? #Leadership #ChangeManagement #Communication #BusinessStrategy #LIM

    We all want personalization—but at what cost? How do we deliver highly personalized experiences while respecting customer privacy and navigating the complexities of data security and access. eCommerce leaders, like my friend, Rui, are spending at least 10% of their time with legal and compliance and facing unique challenges like: → Privacy regulations → Demand for more personalization → First-party data But at the core, the question remains the same: How do we create intimate customer experiences while respecting privacy boundaries? Because right now leaders like Rui and brands like Aetrex are walking this fine line: → More data = better experiences. → More regulations = more restrictions. → More consumer skepticism = greater need for trust. For our clients, the answer isn’t more data. The answer is smarter data usage because the right systems collecting the right data in the right way will build trust AND deliver an exceptional experience.
