He also holds the title of Emeritus Professor of Neurosurgery and was the Founding Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is a founding figure of the specialty of neurosurgical oncology and a world authority in cancer care, with accolades from the American Cancer Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and more. ? Dr. Sawaya has helped treat distinguished leaders such as former Senator Ted Kennedy and former Attorney General Beau Biden. He is an internationally recognized pioneer in cancer research and renowned clinical trialist with over 380 scientific publications and over 27,000 citations. ?
