This month Liles Construction begins new construction on this exciting new chapter for Cabarrus County Schools. The replacement project for the old Beverly Hills Elementary school (where our founder, Jock Liles went to elementary school) will provide much needed services to pre-school aged children in Cabarrus County. The project will consist of demolishing current facilities, retrofitting 10,000 square feet of an existing eight-classroom building originally built in 1990, and adding approximately 24,000 square feet of new construction that will house the Mary Frances Wall Pre-School Center. The school sits on almost 7 acres of land and the new building will include administrative spaces, support spaces, conference spaces, and collaborative breakout spaces for up to 300 students. We're looking forward to seeing it come to life! The end of 2024 also marked the official retirement of our Corporate Secretary and Payroll Manager, Betsy Liles. Married to founder George “Jock” Liles, Betsy started as employee #2 in 1984 and has been a force for the company ever since, keeping us running smoothly behind the scenes from the beginning. Over the years, Betsy has trained and worked with every single Liles employee. We’re grateful for her lasting impact on our team. Betsy will continue to be active in corporate board meetings and (we hope) company party planning, but she's looking forward to having more time to spend volunteering in her community, at the beach, and of course, cooking and baking for her friends and family. Thank you, Betsy, for your commitment and service to Liles Construction and its employees all these years. We hope you enjoy your much deserved time-off in retirement!

There's nothing we love more than seeing old buildings repurposed for continued use in our community. Our latest adaptive reuse project was for Grinnell Waterworks, creative office space located in the heart of Midtown Charlotte, NC. This historic brick building was originally built in 1930 as a manufacturing facility, but was redeveloped in 2001. The space features original brick and industrial doors, and plenty of natural light. The Liles team led the charge on a beautiful renovation, consisting of upgrades to the exterior entryway, open-concept lobby, and two existing suites. Unique features include a concrete seating area for use by tenants desiring to gather, eat, or meet outside when the weather is nice, and the installation of a "living" green wall to complete the lobby aesthetic. Thanks Asana Partners for the opportunity! Many thanks also to BB+M Architecture, Josh Long, David Nickel, and Edward Martinez.

We love getting the chance to improve our public schools, and this month we're making great progress at Roebuck Elementary! Crews are wrapping up the new construction portion of Area A, which includes two new classrooms that will be ready for use mid-January. Finishing up these classrooms will allow our team to shift its focus to the second phase of Area A, which includes the office and remaining classroom renovations scheduled to be completed over the summer. Area B construction is ongoing and consists of a 22,000 square foot new building addition. The load-bearing Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) is set to be completed soon, and joists and deck will be installed later this month.

We couldn't have reached this milestone anniversary without you. Here's to many more years of building the future together!

We're excited to share about our ongoing collaboration with Kanthal, a global leader in industrial heating technologies. We began our partnership with Kanthal in the first quarter of this year to develop, budget, and plan for their new manufacturing facility in Concord, NC. This industrial upfit —now in full swing—will maximize Kanthal's existing space and support their growth. Phase one of the project consisted of expanding the footprint of Kanthal and erecting a new demising wall and placing a concrete ramp to create a storage and shipping area for Kanthal products. We worked closely with A&W Electric to ensure all equipment needs in phase two would be supported by an improved electrical package and a larger transformer. Phase two will include an improved electrical room, rigging machinery/manufacturing equipment, and installing a work platform to support Kanthal’s new process and procedures. Though Kanthal is a global company, Liles is proud to be sourcing solutions for this project locally, from custom metal fabrications to specialized machinery. Our local partnerships have allowed us to meet Kanthal's unique requirements right here in the Carolinas. We look forward to completing this project in early 2025 and delivering a first-class, upgraded facility for Kanthal. We're excited to share our latest Upstate project starting construction: the revitalization of the Greenville State Farmers Market! This 16,000 square foot facility offers fresh produce and plants sourced from South Carolina farms year-round. Liles' renovation includes a complete overhaul of the interior and exterior fa?ade, giving the market a fresh, modern look. We’ll be highlighting the building with a new cedar canopy at the main entrance, enhancing the structure's visual appeal and providing shade for shoppers. The project also includes on-site offices for market staff. The Greenville State Farmers Market is beloved by the community, and Liles Construction is proud to play a part in its facelift. The project is slated for completion in Spring of 2025. Project Team: - PM – Randal Ellison - PE – Zachary Biggin - Super – Marvin Atkins - Architect - DP3 Architects
