Delving deeper into our vision for the Rulmental, Bra?ov International Design Competition with holger meyer architektur! ???? At the core of “Rulmental Reimagined” is a north-to-south sports promenade, offering spaces for activities like ping-pong, bocce, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. This promenade is more than just a space for play—it's a dynamic connection that blends active recreation with the site's industrial past, promoting community interaction and a healthy lifestyle. A highlight of our design is the reimagined industrial artifacts—concrete remnants transformed into sculptural seating throughout the park. These elements provide places for visitors to rest and reflect, weaving together the site's history with contemporary design. It’s a place where heritage meets new possibilities, creating a park that is both a nod to the past and a step toward a vibrant future. Thrilled to share our competition entry for the Rulmental, Bra?ov International Design Competition in collaboration with holger meyer architektur! ????? “Rulmental Reimagined” transforms a former ball-bearing manufacturing site into a vibrant public space that celebrates its industrial roots while embracing sustainable urban design. The centerpiece of the design is the expansive hangar-style buildings, carefully preserved and restored as iconic features. These structures frame a central green spine forest park, where existing vegetation has been repurposed into a lush landscape. This space will connect passive and active recreational areas, offering a variety of experiences that link visitors to the site's rich history and natural beauty. ?? Reflecting on an incredible week of presentations! At the ASLA National Conference, LILA Principals Matthew Gindlesperger, PLA ASLA and Timothy Nawrocki, AIA, ASLA and Haemee Han, Principal of Jaemee Studio, engaged in their conversation, "Leaping Forward: Growing from Full-time Employment to Entrepreneurship." We discussed the challenges, processes and triumphs of making the leap into starting our own practices, and it was so rewarding to connect with others on similar journeys. Timothy Nawrocki, AIA, ASLA presented "Money Does Grow on Trees" at Fast Forward Philly sponsored by AIA Philadelphia, an event centered around big ideas for Philadelphia. He explored the powerful economic, social, and cultural benefits that urban forests can bring to our cities, challenging us to rethink how we value trees and green spaces. It was also wonderful to hear from all of the other speakers including: Lauren Cristella, Nate Hommel, Eric Bodzin, Anne Fadullon, Christine Salvadore, Sharrod Parker and Kya Kerner from FIFTEEN, and Kiersten Mailler. Within the grandeur of an Abu Dhabi palace, a walled garden emerges as a verdant oasis celebrating the region's native flora. Designed with meticulous attention to detail, the garden seamlessly blends traditional Islamic architecture with contemporary elements, creating a captivating tapestry of textures and colors. Here, native vegetation takes center stage, with playful planting arrangements that pay homage to the rich biodiversity of the Arabian Peninsula. The garden's design evokes a sense of whimsy and wonder, inviting visitors on a sensory journey through desert pathways adorned with fragrant herbs, vibrant blossoms, and lush greenery. Towering palms sway gently between the walls, casting dappled shadows upon the landscape below and leading visitors throughout this garden experience. At every turn, unexpected encounters await, from secluded alcoves adorned with intricate latticework to hidden groves bursting with the vibrant hues of bougainvillea and desert roses. The garden wall stands as an unexpected marvel, its surface adorned with circular openings resembling portals to another world. Through these apertures, desert vegetation cascades outward, flowing onto the arid landscape below like water spilling from a pipe. Each plant, resilient and tenacious, seems to defy the harsh environment, thriving amidst the sand.
