This morning, I had the pleasure of discussing my unforgettable paragliding experience in Switzerland with Alex Smyth. ?? The stunning views, coupled with the accessibility measures they took, made it an adventure of a lifetime! Check out the segment to hear how they ensured comfort and inclusion while taking my breath away: https://lnkd.in/g7ebq5Bm Let's continue the conversation on making travel and experiences accessible for everyone! ?? #AccessibleTravel #Inclusion #Paragliding #DisabilityAdvocacy Image description: This image is a composite featuring a video call screenshot of two men in the upper-left corner and a scenic paragliding view over a mountainous region in the lower portion. The video call shows one man with glasses, a beard, and headphones in front of a wall of framed pictures, and another man smiling in a dark blue polo shirt with a red background filled with memorabilia. The main image below captures a tandem paraglider with two individuals, one in a blue helmet and the other in a yellow helmet, soaring high above green fields, a winding river, and small towns, with mountains in the background. The text "Accessible Paragliding in Switzerland" is overlaid at the bottom, alongside a Swiss flag.

With the Olympic and Paralympic Games ?? ? well underway in Paris, Mike Ross and I got to thinking, what is the lasting impression of the games in a host City? And I reflected on some of the #accessibility improvements in Vancouver that came as a result of the 2010 Games? https://lnkd.in/g8CA2VkZ What do you think about the impact that hosting the Olympics has on a city and the people who live there?

Meet, TranscribeGlass, the patent-pending glasses that transcribe audio into closed captions in real time. ???? Stanford graduate Tom Pritsky has moderate to severe bilateral hearing loss, so he created TranscribeGlass to "fill in the blanks" of his conversations. ?? Tom isn't alone. Nearly 2.5 billion people around the globe are projected to have some sort of hearing impairment by 2050. ?? TranscribeGlass currently has north of 5,000 people in their pilot study and 1,000s of pre-orders on the backlog. While the company is young and has a lot of development ahead, TranscribeGlass is positioned to make this world more heard for people with hearing impairments. #accessibility #hearingloss #innovation #likeventures #startups

Meet Ahoi!, the place to find places that ACTUALLY fit your accessibility needs. ???? After four years in the hospital due to a near death injury, Jake Haendel ventured back out into the world. Within hours, Jake realized how inaccessible the world was as a wheelchair user. Jake, being the go-getter he is, set out to solve this issue. He teamed up with Chris Beissel and founded Ahoi!, an app that offers personalized accessibility insights into users’ recreational travel plans. Users simply input their needs and Ahoi! will give each map destination a tailored accessibility score (and even prepare users for sidewalk cracks along the way). With Ahoi!, people with mobility impairments can go out on the town with full confidence.??? Ahoi! just graduated from Techstars Boston Accelerator and is rolling right into MassChallenge. Keep up the good work, team! ?? #accessibility #likeventures #startups #venture #disability #founderstory

Each month we will raise awareness for various disorders and syndromes that plague millions of people each year. June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. ?? More than 55 million people globally live with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and this figure is likely to double every twenty years. Not only does this disease affect the individual, but it drastically changes the life of family and loved ones as they become full-time caregivers. ???????? Family caregivers, often called invisible second patients, provide an estimated 17 million hours of unpaid care to the patient. This level of care is often negative as it leads to isolation, physical illness, and financial stress. To show support to both patients and their caregivers, please wear Purple this month and visit https://www.alz.org/ for additional resources and information. ?? “The more that people know about Alzheimer's, the more action we inspire.”??? #AlzheimersAwareness #BrainAwarenessMonth #wearpurple #BrainHealth #DementiaPrevention

As we gear up for our third annual ACT (Accessibility Conference of Technology) in October 2024, here’s a recap from last year’s ACT Conference: Over 250 attendees tuned in for in-depth discussions surrounding market dynamics, investment trends, entrepreneurial initiatives, technological innovation, educational advancements, and regulatory frameworks. Conversations were led by a diverse group of panelists with backgrounds ranging from investment to operation. A big thank you to panelists Andrea Kalmans, Luke Benda, Moaz ゼ Hamid, Jeffrey Paul for sharing their expertise with the world. Here are some key questions we explored: What makes this market so nascent? ?? How do LP’s view the accessibility space? ?? What are regulatory changes that create opportunity in this market? ?? How do you build a successful business in the accessibility space? ?? What are emerging markets for VC’s to build around? ?? We finished off the conference with our renowned Impact on Accessibility Award to highlight change-making founders in the accessibility space. Our 2023 recipient was All Access Life, led by Bradley Heaven and Daniel O'Connor. This team is enabling people with disabilities to live their best lives through innovative accessibility products, influencer marketing, and defying odds in the real world (running marathons together with cerebral palsy). We look back on the 2023 ACT with gratitude for the innovation, information, and inspiration for the future of accessibility technology. ?? We look forward to the 2024 ACT with excitement to expand our mission to make this world more equitable for people with disabilities. ?? This morning, Alex Smyth and I discussed the 'Arc' browser by The Browser Company that looks to redefine the way we search the internet. Not only does it have some pretty cool #AI features under the hood, but it looks promising from an #accessibility perspective as well: https://lnkd.in/gP48XA2T
