A stone company was fined after repeatedly failing to protect workers. After the hearing, HSE inspector Charlotte Bligh said: “The company management responsible for health and safety was neither informed nor competent enough to carry out their role under the law." Over time, health risks on-site weren’t assessed, control measures fell by the wayside, and no competent advice was sought to manage these risks effectively. This unfortunate example underscores the importance of comprehensive training and proactive risk management.
