Digital Enterprise Journal’s state of the market study, “Key Areas Shaping the Markets for Delivering and Operating Digital Services in 2024” – RESEARCH UPDATE #3 -???????????#1 desired business outcome selected in the study (78% of respondents) was – “Reliability and resilience of digital services” -???????????-55% of respondents selected “Improve ability to proactively prevent performance issues” as their key goal. Fourteen years’ worth of trending data (between #DEJ and my previous venture) show steady decline in 3 key areas of managing performance of digital services: 1) overall satisfaction (measured by availability or user experience); 2) ability to resolve issues; and 3) ability to prevent issues before users are impacted (trending line looks similar for the 4th key metric, ability to detect incidents). At the same time, the business impact of digital services’ performance is skyrocketing. Some underlining issues that are driving these trends - 67% of respondents reported “Lack of actionable context of monitoring and #observability data” as a key challenge. For purposes of identifying top vendors that can help with this issue, we’ll look again at some of 2022 Top Vendors such as Catchpoint, Chronosphere, Coralogix, Dynatrace, Kentik, LogicMonitor and Mezmo as well as 2022 top EMERGING vendors Nobl9, Observe, Inc. and Selector. We will also evaluate some new candidates for top emerging vendors – Dash0, Flip AI, Kloudfuse, Resolve AI and others. - 52% of respondents reported “Identifying changes that are causing performance issues” as a key challenge. Additionally, the study shows that 69% of #MTTR is spent on identifying change that is causing a problem. In addition to vendors mentioned above, DEJ will also evaluate other vendors with strong capabilities in this area, such as BigPanda, Checkly, honeycomb.io, IBM Instana and Sentry. New candidates for top emerging vendors in this area include Antithesis, Lightrun, NeuBird.ai and others. - 65% of respondents reported “Lack of true visibility into user experience” as a key challenge. There are all kinds of #UEM/ #DEM functionalities and products out there so this number being this high might come as a surprise. The word TRUE is key for making this one of the top challenges. This is the fourth study in a row (6+ years) where more than 70% of organizations are reporting that metrics IT is using do not reflect true user experience. The quality of user experience goes way beyond speed and availability of applications and for that reason vendors such as Catchpoint, Nexthink and Riverbed Technology were included in the 2022 top 20 and will be evaluated again this year. Also, Netlify and Vercel are other vendors that will be included in our analysis (for addressing this challenge and many other reasons).
