At Lightpoint, our mission is to provide exceptional data and education that bring significant value to the reconstruction community. When we launched the ACM Recovery Service in 2023, we hoped to connect recons with otherwise unrecoverable data. Since then, we have searched for 1,400+ modules! Our success rate over the course of the project was 3.5%, which aligned with our expectations, considering the nature of the endeavor. However, most of the time we had to deliver the disappointing news that the search was unsuccessful. Moreover, only 40% of the modules we found last year were purchased, leading us to reconsider the service’s value. After careful evaluation, we’ve determined our resources would be better directed toward other opportunities that more effectively serve the community. As such, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue the ACM Recovery Service. To those who successfully retrieved data, we hope it played a meaningful role in your analyses and helped to bring closure to those involved. Looking ahead, we have many exciting projects coming this year and are eager to continue supporting you in new and innovative ways. Thank you for your trust and feedback, we look forward to sharing our next announcement!

Thanks to all the colleagues and friends who have reached out the past few days as the area has been pummeled with wildfires. We’re all safe and our homes and office are not currently in danger. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes or are still facing a threat. The constant buzz of sirens, planes, and helicopters reminds us of Fred Rogers’ mother’s words, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Godspeed to the heroic emergency responders. Thank you for your bravery and tireless efforts.?

Given the current ubiquity of cameras, reconstructionists are consistently challenged with calculating a vehicle’s speed from video. Lightpoint’s upcoming webinar series will explore the primary techniques used to determine speed and provide a detailed look into the most popular software programs utilized by the community. Modern cameras and laser scanners demand a ?????? from SD cards. If you don't know what all the specs on the label mean, the descriptions below will quickly bring you up to speed.? ????????????: SD stands for Secure Digital, a format developed by the SD Association. There are three tiers, SD (2 GB capacity), SDHC (high capacity – 32 GB), and SDXC (extended capacity – 1 TB, for now). ?????????? ?????????? ?????????? | ?????? ????????: The minimum sequential writing speed of the card. V90, for instance, means the card can sustain video recordings of 90 MB/s until the card is full. V30 would be 30 MB/s, etc. For many modern cameras, you need V90 to access all video recording formats and frame rates. The "II" below V90 means UHS-II (see below). ?????????? ??????????: Minimum-rated sustained write speed. 10 means 10 MB/s. ?????? ?????????? ??????????: U1 is identical to Class 10 and U3 is rated at a minimum write speed of 30 MB/s. The U designation indicates the card employs the UHS-1 or UHS-II bus protocol. UHS-II has the extra pins on the back, which I suspect you've seen. ?????????????? ????????????????: Indicates how much data can be stored on the card. ??????. ???????? ??????????: After capacity, this is usually the second number to catch my eye. However, it’s the maximum read speed under ideal conditions. How fast a card can write is almost always more important for us, and if you’re shooting bursts or video, the sustained write speed is the key metric.
