?CLT Park Harumi by KENGO KUMA & ASSOCIATES, Tokyo - 2019, was a temporary pavilion demonstrating the versatility of Japanese cross-laminated timber (CLT). Parallelogram-shaped CLT fins form a four-sided structure with a central lawn featuring interactive digital displays. Transparent TEFKA panels provide weather protection while preserving airflow and visibility of the timber. Flanking the pavilion are event spaces, including a reading room and a staircase with a sculptural CLT installation. Commissioned by Mitsubishi Estate Group, the structure was designed for future relocation to Hiruzen National Park in Maniwa and reassembled in an area surrounded by greenery.?? ?? Lights Out: The Bulb Bosses' Sneaky Plot Exposed! Imagine a group of big lightbulb companies getting together and deciding to make their products die on purpose! ?? That happened with the Phoebus Cartel in the 1920s and 1930s. These companies secretly agreed to limit how long lightbulbs could last, forcing consumers to buy replacements constantly. Sound familiar? Look at today's tech world: smartphones that slow down, computers with short lifespans, and appliances designed to break just after the warranty expires. Is this just capitalism's dark side, or a calculated strategy? From Apple's battery throttling to Samsung's rapid product cycles, it seems the Phoebus Cartel's spirit lives on across industries. ???? The irony? LED technology has partly rebelled - now lasting 25,000 to 50,000 hours. A technology redemption story! However, we are trying to challenge this model. We're working directly with manufacturers to try create a circular lighting economy. The vision: keep sturdy fixtures and upgrade only internal components. Very much early days but we have to start somewhere! This approach would reduce waste and protect our most precious resource - Planet Earth! ?? Jinan Cultural Center by architecturestudio is a huge complex consisting of diamond-shaped structures connected by public passages in Shandong, China. Double perforated aluminum plate has been used for the facade system to provide a design element and control internal temperature and luminosity. The dynamism created by the facade tilt and the tower complex rising among the jewel-like structures provides an aesthetic look to the architecture. The two-phased building includes the City Library, the City Art Museum, and the Mass Art Museum. Also an exhibition hall, conference room, office, hotel, commercial, and supporting facilities. ?? A boutique corporate tower designed by our S?o Paulo studio is competing for the Future Project, Office award at this year’s World Architecture Festival in Singapore. The team will present their innovative design for Bio Jardins, developed for B11 Inteligência Imobiliária. Located on Av. Rebou?as, one of S?o Paulo’s most prominent avenues, the tower aims to promote synergy between people, the workplace, and the urban environment. With its distinctive wood cladding, lush landscaping, and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, the design invites ample natural light in and offers views of the city’s lively neighborhoods—setting it apart from conventional corporate buildings. The thoughtful integration of biophilic design enhances connections with nature, creating a healthier, more inviting atmosphere that stimulates occupants’ well-being, creativity, and productivity. Ground-floor commercial spaces invite the community in, linking the tower to the street and encouraging more foot traffic.?

Architectural Design: BUZZ Floor Area: 8,300 ft2 The lighting design for the Chamber Chapel beautifully blends artistry and precision, creating an inspiring atmosphere inside and out. ?? Main Fa?ade Lighting The fa?ade lighting unfolds in three distinct layers: 1?? The spire of the bell tower, the brightest feature, draws attention as a striking focal point. 2?? Warm light radiates from the main entry and tiered floating openings, exuding a welcoming glow. 3?? Delicate, dim washes of light complete the overall fa?ade treatment, enhancing the chapel's ethereal elegance. ?? Entrance Experience We integrated warm white linear fixtures into the entry's arches, highlighting the rhythmic geometry. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dramatic and emotionally resonant experience for visitors, ensuring the chapel leaves a lasting impression. ?? Interior Lighting Inside, the curved ceiling is illuminated with precision, thanks to 3D modeling and visualization. This approach allowed us to strategically place accent lighting, emphasizing the chapel's architectural grace. ?? Reflecting Pool Magic Surrounding the chapel is a deep black reflecting pool, offering a stark yet harmonious contrast to the soaring white structure. Instead of direct lighting, the pool mirrors the fa?ade’s glow, creating a surreal, almost otherworldly visual effect.
