State of Florida Sales Tax update ? ? Tenants in Florida and those who possess licenses for real property use have reason to anticipate a notable decrease in their sales tax responsibilities starting June 1, 2024. This adjustment reflects ongoing initiatives in the state to cultivate a more hospitable business environment. Specifically, the state's sales tax rate applicable to commercial rentals, as defined under section 212.031 of the Florida Statutes, is poised to decrease from 4.5% to just 2.0%. The County’s discretionary sales surtax will still apply. Commercial rentals encompass a range of real estate agreements, including leases and licenses for various properties like commercial offices, retail spaces, warehouses, offices, etc. The term "total rent charged" comprises all payments that tenants are required to make in exchange for the right to utilize or occupy the property. This means that their effective rent—the amount they actually pay after factoring in taxes—will be reduced, resulting in potential cost savings for businesses and individuals renting commercial spaces in Florida. #TEAMLBR #CRE #SPACECOAST
