  • How does someone go from working as a cashier at Publix to becoming a Senior Solutions Engineer for a multinational defense company? Our Transition Program teens got to find out firsthand! This special work experience started with a visit from a former Publix employee turned cybersecurity expert. He shared how his first job taught him valuable skills that shaped his career. After a bagging lesson from the pro, the teens put their own twist on the iconic Pub Sub — because mastering the perfect sandwich is an art! ?? In the afternoon, we shifted to the digital world, exploring cybersecurity and online privacy. The teens learned about the dangers of weak passwords, how easily personal information can be stolen, and how to stay safe in an increasingly digital world. The takeaway? Every job teaches valuable skills, and you never know where your first job might take you! ?? Want to learn more about our Transition Program? • What does it take to tackle a DIY project? Our Transition Program teens found out with a hands-on crash course in home maintenance, problem-solving, and a little creative cooking — all part of a day designed to build confidence and real-world skills. They started with Name That Tool! and a discussion on home maintenance before heading to the "store of orange buckets" for a scavenger hunt. From tracking down a 2”x4”x8” in Building to a light switch in Electrical to “something you think is ugly” in Décor and Furniture, they explored the store department by department, sharpening their navigation and problem-solving skills along the way. Back at Lighthouse, the challenge continued in the kitchen. Given just one ingredient — chicken — the teens had to get creative, searching for other ingredients and coming up with their own lunch ideas. The results? Nachos, noodles, tacos, and even a grilled cheese with scrambled eggs. The day wrapped up with a hands-on tool workshop where they tested out hammers, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, hand drills, and more — plus learned how to replace batteries and light bulbs. These are the skills that build independence, and our teens are proving they’re ready for anything. ?? Want to learn more about our Transition Program? Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gqxR9seU
