I partner with architects and designers as a specialist for outdoor lighting design to help them bring the best possible lighting solutions to their clientele and keep their teams focused on what they do best.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLOR FOR LIGHTING CONIFERS IN LANDSDCAPES There are a variety of LED color temperature options when it comes to illuminating landscape objects and plant materials. Some CCTs (Correlated Color Temperatures) look better on some objects than others. As a rule of thumb, the lower CCTs are considered very warm white (2200k to warm white at 3000k). These color temps have a higher frequency wavelength near infra-red 590-750 nanometers (reds and oranges) which is great for objects with warmer earth tone colors present in them, they will reflect more of the true warmth of the color present in the object. For trees and green plant materials, CCTs ranging from 3000k to 4000k have a narrow spectral bandwidth around 450-570 nanometers (higher in Green and Blue bandwidth color) which makes green foliage appear more vibrant and true to color than warmer color temperatures. TL;DR Lower color temperature LEDs (2200-3000k) are a good choice for objects that have warmer reds and earth tones present in them. Higher color temperature LEDs (3000k-4000k) are a good choice for objects with cooler blue and green tones, such as tree and plant foliage. I added an extra specialty lamp in the mix that has a Silver green color mix to it (generally better for desert landscape, but interesting nonetheless on conifers) IMO, Conifers look best with a CCT of 3000k most of the time, but can be accented with 4000k occasionally for an interesting pop. #asla #lightingdesigner #landscapelighting #landscapearchitect #outdoorliving
