关于我们
In 2001, Matt and his wife, Susie, established The Light Foundation – a non-profit organization that exists to give at-risk kids a better chance at leading healthy lives by using the great outdoors to learn and grow. It wasn’t long after being established that the Light Foundation purchased and began developing 500+ acres of Ohio land as the site for Chenoweth Trails facility, where it holds its outdoor leadership camp, Camp Vohokase, every summer. A hand selected group of young men from around the country are taught the values of hard work, responsibility and accountability. Light and his team follow these kids all year round to ensure they stay on track. The main mission: to provide them opportunities to reach their highest potential and become mentors to their peers. The Light Foundation also establishes partnerships with other nonprofits to better serve the needs of the greater community, and holds a variety of onsite programs at Chenoweth Trails. In addition, the organization provides academic scholarships to deserving young student leaders in Ohio and New England. The Light Foundation gives kids opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have to get outside and take on a challenge or to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits. Giving back has always been a primary pillar in our philosophy to help kids succeed in life.

Join us in welcoming our Spring 2025 intern, Elise Gay! A senior at Bridgewater State University majoring in Communications, Elise is bringing her PR and video editing skills to our Ohio team as we gear up for The Buckeye Blast. “I love the variety of projects I get to work on and being part of such a great team.” Funny enough, a few semesters ago, Elise took a nonprofit course alongside our very own Development & Events Coordinator, Emilie — and now she’s working alongside her at the Light Foundation. Talk about a full-circle moment! We’re excited to have her on board and can’t wait to see her creativity in action!

Happy National Employee Appreciation Day! ?? Today, we want to shine a spotlight on our hardworking Grounds and Maintenance team. They don’t always get the credit they deserve for keeping Chenoweth Trails—our property for Ohio programming—in top-notch condition! A big thank you to Brian Rehmert, Matt Oliver, Rodney Denniston, TJ Peachie, and Glenn Rehmert for your dedication in making this space enjoyable for the young people who benefit from the trails. And a special thank you to the rest of our team for all the amazing work you do to support our mission!

We wrapped up our winter hometown visits last month with a great time spent with our junior classmen in Camp Vohokase—Urijah, Marius, and Lashawn. From high-energy arcade games at Scene 75 to a delicious meal at Buffalo Wild Wings and some friendly bowling competition, we made lasting memories while catching up on goals and life happenings. ??????? This time together reminded us of the core values we work to instill in our Camp Vohokase participants—responsibility, leadership, and personal growth. The program helps young men from at-risk communities build essential skills that will set them up for future success. ?? Want to learn more about the weekend and the impact of Camp Vohokase? Head to our blog for the full story! ?? https://lnkd.in/gsFY4Bdy

We kicked off National Reading Month with a fun and educational stroll through Darke County Park’s Maple Tour on Saturday with our LIGHT Project participants! ???? To kick off the day, we began by reading How to Tap a Maple, a book written and graciously shared with us by Stephanie Mulligan. It was the perfect way to introduce the adventure ahead! With Connor and Christy leading the way, we explored the trails, making stops along the way to learn about the maple syrup making process. It truly takes a community to create experiences like this for our outdoor literacy program. A huge thank you to McSea Books for the books and to Darke County Parks for giving us an unforgettable tour!

Team Speed of Light is counting down the days until they cross the Boston Marathon finish line on April 21st! Today, we’re excited to spotlight one of our seven incredible athletes, Brad Robinson! Here’s why he’s raising funds and awareness for our mission: "I’m running the Boston Marathon not just for the challenge, but for the opportunity to give young adults a strong starting block in life—one built with hard work, grit, and a little dirt under the nails. There’s no better way to learn than by doing, and I love supporting a mission that empowers the next generation to build their future with their own hands. 26.2 miles feels like a small price to pay for something this meaningful (though my legs may disagree)."
