Last week we were invited to the FORGE Spring Startup Showcase where we pitched our idea to bring forward a ropeless solution that works for both whales and lobstermen. We were awarded first place, and a cash prize. At the event, we were able to talk with other startups and entrepreneurs who are also looking to bring their ideas to a reality through sheer will and effort. Ashley Stolba started the evening with the insight of how important it is to support innovation startups and how Massachusetts is one of if not the best place to start the journey, with its talent and resources such as FORGE. At FORGE startups are matched and mentored with the expertise and manufacturing capabilities they need through the programs own vetting process, making the likelihood of success for startups go from a mere 10% to 20%. Needless to say, we are grateful for FORGE and the state of Massachusetts for giving us the support we need to be part of that 20% and see the use of ropeless gear go from an idea to a common practice in the fishing industry. Developing the next generation of trap fishing gear without rope. Our ropeless gear sinks to the bottom of the ocean, where fishers are able to trigger the subsea Lift via our mobile app. This provides fishermen with a solution to allow them to fish in closure areas, while not introducing risk of entanglement to the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, as well as other large marine mammals.
