Why Can’t I Drop My Disney+ Membership? Now that I’m a mom, I could technically blame my Disney+ addiction on Madison’s “entertainment needs”—but who am I kidding? I’ve been hooked ever since my partner, David, gifted me a subscription four years ago. Madison, at just 17 months, barely watches TV, and yet here I am, paying every month for all things Wall-E, Inside Out, and countless other shows I may never actually get to. Last week at #ProductConSF, Ajay Arora , SVP of Disney broke down exactly why subscriptions like Disney+ are so irresistible. I went #fangirl a bit because we got to chat a bit after his talk and his insights were spot-on: 1?? Create Emotional Utility - The sweet spot where membership (emotion) meets subscription (utility) keeps people coming back. 2?? Embrace the Subscription Trinity - Focus on retention FIRST, then monetization, and attraction, otherwise your business is just a giant leaky bucket 3?? Exit Gracefully - Allow people to break up with your subscription without making it messy. 4?? Ajay also shared some advice for me for LifeSpark Labs: forget monetization at first, and find the people “whose hair is on fire” for what I’m creating. Focus on those people, and the rest will come. Turns out, I don’t just love The Walt Disney Company for content—it’s the feel-good effect and emotional lift I get when I watch. It’s a service that “gets me,” and that’s why I keep coming back. ?? We’re in this together. The challenges we face today are too vast and complex for any one person or company to solve alone. When I shared my journey of starting LifeSpark Labs, honestly, I expected more negative reactions—doubts, unsolicited advice, and “you’re not supposed to do this” attitudes. My mindset was in a place of fear, scarcity, and permission seeking (Why I was in that mindset, and how I got out is a whole other post in itself!). But what I received instead was an overwhelming outpouring of support from friends and colleagues all over the world. This month, I’m thrilled to share that LifeSpark Labs was featured in its first publication, in the October newsletter by MyAsianVoice LLC, a groundbreaking organization bridging data gaps and connecting Asian Americans to essential surveys and research. Meeting their CEO, Amy (Wu) Stratton, earlier this year was such a privilege. Her passion for increasing Asian American representation was contagious and inspiring.
