Yesterday, LifeNet, in partnership with USAID, USAID ASHA, Joint Medical Store, and the U.S. Mission Uganda held a flagging-off ceremony for life-saving equipment to be distributed to 36 of?LifeNet's network of 129 health facilities in Uganda. This equipment will be used to better serve patients and save many lives, especially for mothers and children. It was an honor to work with Ambassador William Popp; USAID Mission Director Daniele Nyirandutiye; USAID AOR Azara Turaki; the whole team at the USAID mission in Uganda; Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze, Director of Public Health for the Uganda Ministry of Health;?Baguma Bildard, Executive Director of Joint Medical Store; and the wonderful team at Joint Medical Store who hosted this event. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Landry Muhizi, LifeNet's?Medical Programs Senior Advisor, has been invited to join the steering committee for the Postpartum Hemorrhage Community of Practice (PPH CoP), initiated by the USAID MOMENTUM Partnership at Johns Hopkins (Jhpiego). He will join a group of 15 other expert leaders pursuing global targets for PPH. Dr. Muhizi will bring his valuable perspective as he oversees LifeNet’s medical program with 400+ health facilities across 6 countries.

*Today, we celebrate the 1,643 mothers whose lives were saved in the LifeNet network, at birth, in 2023.* Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal death, accounting for 27% of all maternal deaths worldwide?and approximately 30% to 50% of maternal deaths in sub-Saharan Africa.?Health workers in the LifeNet network are trained in innovative and effective treatment methods for PPH; as a result, 1,643 women's lives were saved at birth in 2023.
