?? Water is life, and today we celebrate its importance ???? Every March 22nd, World Water Day reminds us of the essential role this resource plays in our lives and in the fight against climate change. At LIFE COSTAdapta, we work to adapt Gran Canaria’s coastline to rising sea levels through innovative and sustainable solutions. ?? In this context, we want to share the recent interview of Patricia del Mar Caro Ruiz, researcher at Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and partner of the LIFE COSTAdapta project, on Cadena SER . During her intervention, Patricia highlighted how the infrastructures designed within the project will help mitigate wave energy, facilitating natural coastal protection processes. ?? “These infrastructures help dissipate wave energy. Our goal is to design them for adaptation, supporting natural coastal protection processes. One key focus is to stabilize the shoreline and minimize erosion, another major risk associated with rising sea levels and increasing extreme weather events,” explained Patricia. ?? ?? LIFE COSTAdapta sparks great interest at the Ecoislas International Forum ?? On January 30th, Evelyn Alonso-Rohner presented the LIFE COSTAdapta project at the Ecoislas International Forum in Gran Canaria. The event was a huge success! ?? The room exceeded the expected capacity, with many attendees standing to follow the presentation. The session focused on the need to move towards more sustainable and adaptive coastal protection, moving beyond traditional hard infrastructure and embracing innovative solutions such as: ? "Coastal immunotherapies": enhancing natural coastal mechanisms, such as increasing pebble deposits. ? Eco-friendly concrete structures, designed to reduce wave impact while boosting marine biodiversity. ? Modular and adaptable design for future climate scenarios, such as rising sea levels. ?? The discussion was filled with key questions: ?? How can we ensure public acceptance of such projects? ?? Is concrete really compatible with marine conservation? At LIFE COSTAdapta, we explained how the project location was chosen through a consensus-based process and how the materials used are specifically designed to support biodiversity. ???? ?? Are we ready to move beyond traditional solutions and embrace coastal protection that works with nature rather than against it? ?? ?? ??
