How Baltersan Castle Chose Caol Ila as Its First Whisky At Baltersan Castle, every decision we make is steeped in history, heritage, and meaning. When it came to choosing our first whisky for the Baltersan 1584 brand, we sought more than just exceptional flavor—we sought a story that resonated with our legacy. We are thrilled to announce that Caol Ila, the renowned distillery from Islay, holds the honor of being our inaugural partner. This decision was not made lightly; it is a choice deeply connected to the heritage of Baltersan, the Kennedys, and the Lords of the Isles. The Kennedys, who once held the Barony of Crossraguel, were intertwined with the mighty Lords of the Isles, a lineage that extended its influence to Islay—an island famed for its rich whisky tradition. Caol Ila, nestled on Islay’s shores, embodies the spirit of this shared heritage. Its name, meaning "Sound of Islay" in Gaelic, echoes the historic maritime routes that linked the Lords of the Isles’ strongholds to the mainland, including the lands surrounding Baltersan. This choice was made possible through our collaboration with Douglas Laing & Co., one of the few remaining pure-bred Scottish bottlers, renowned for their dedication to preserving the craft of traditional whisky production. Their expertise allowed us to craft a whisky that not only tells a story but also evokes a true sense of place. We sought a taste that recalls the natural elements that define Baltersan Castle. The whisky captures the essence of the sea breeze and wind that so often sweep through our historic grounds, carrying with them the aroma of the surrounding grass, peat, and earth. These sensory notes are interwoven into Caol Ila’s signature profile, creating a whisky that feels like standing on the shores of Islay or amidst the timeless landscape of Baltersan. We’re excited to share that this exceptional whisky will soon be available for sale, once all the legal requirements have been satisfied. If you’re interested in being among the first to experience Baltersan 1584, please reach out to us directly at [email protected]. To make this release truly special, only 60 bottles will be produced. Each bottle will be accompanied by a bespoke, handmade certificate of authenticity, individually numbered and crafted to reflect the heritage of Baltersan Castle. As we celebrate this milestone, we also want to remind everyone to enjoy responsibly. Whisky is a drink to be savored and appreciated in moderation. For more information, visit drinkaware.co.uk. This partnership is the first of many steps in connecting Baltersan Castle’s restoration to Scotland’s rich cultural heritage. By choosing Caol Ila, we honor our past while raising a glass to the future. Here’s to tradition, innovation, and the enduring spirit of Baltersan Castle. In a few days, Baltersan Castle will celebrate its 441st anniversary. I have several surprises planned for everyone interested in the castle's future. Today, I received the most amazing surprise of all—a letter from His Majesty King Charles III. He graciously sent a message of support for this project, and I will always be grateful for such a noble gesture. Our King has long been a patron of art, culture, and music, and to me, this letter is like a ray of sunshine amidst the daily struggles to make this endeavor a success. Thank you so much, Your Majesty.

We did it! ?? I still can’t quite believe it—Baltersan Castle now has its own whisky for sale for the first time in its 440-year history! And just in time to celebrate the castle’s next birthday on the 1st of March. This journey wasn’t easy—it took a huge amount of effort and legal procedures but we made it! I’m incredibly proud of this milestone. Thanks to our collaboration with the renowned Hard To Find Whisky shop handling retail distribution, we are thrilled to offer the first batch of our Caol Ila 12-Year-Old, bottled by Douglas Laing from their exceptional Old Particular series—now available at a special launch price. This exceptional single malt from the Caol Ila distillery was distilled in 2010 and matured for 12 years in a single Refill Hogshead. Bottled at high strength, without colouring or chill filtration, it boasts a bold, smoky, and almost marine-like flavour profile—perfect for whisky lovers and collectors alike. ?? Please note: These bottles are separate from the upcoming limited collector’s edition of 60 numbered bottles, which will be released soon. For that one please keep an eye on baltersan1584.com website. Most importantly, this whisky was bottled to support the restoration of Baltersan Castle and its transformation into a cultural hub and music school. Every sip helps bring history back to life! This marks a historic first: Baltersan Castle whisky is officially on sale! ???? #BaltersanCastle #Whisky #caolila #DouglasLaing #Scotland #HardToFindWhisky #OldParticular #HistoryInTheMaking #CastleRestoration #CulturalHeritage #caoliladistillery #islaywhisky #islaysinglemalt https://lnkd.in/edSGwCQP

?? Announcing a New Video Series: The Lairds of Baltersan ?? History is more than the past—it’s a legacy we carry forward. I am launching a new YouTube series documenting all the known Lairds of Baltersan, sharing their stories, challenges, and contributions to Scotland’s heritage. But what is a Laird? More than just a landowner, a Laird is a steward of history, responsible for preserving and protecting Scotland’s cultural and architectural legacy. Some of the most renowned Lairds in history, like Sir William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, played pivotal roles in shaping Scotland’s destiny. I will begin this journey by honoring James Brown, the Laird who spent decades fighting to save Baltersan Castle. Without his dedication, much of its history would have been lost. Now, as the next custodian, I want to bring these stories to light and share the rich past of Baltersan with the world. The first episode is here: join me on this historical adventure! ?? https://lnkd.in/etfyyyTH #ScottishHeritage #BaltersanCastle #LairdsOfBaltersan #HistoryMatters #JamesBrown #PreservingThePast

You’ll have it forever, and all proceeds go toward the restoration of Baltersan Castle. I hope you and your kids enjoy it—mine gave it their seal of approval! ?? A printed version will be available soon, and I’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready. https://lnkd.in/d7UJzuRi
