From experimental geochemist to IP and licensing leader, to previous Executive Director of LES USA and Canada, Louise Levien, has built an incredible career. Louise shared that from a young age, she had a passion for math, science and discovery. Whether it was solving word problems in first grade or collecting rocks and minerals on family vacations, her path was set early on. "I suppose it wasn’t surprising that I got my PhD as an experimental geochemist." Louise says, "I went to work at Exxon (now ExxonMobil) in their Upstream Research Company as an experimentalist. Partway through my career, I wanted a different assignment, and a new group was starting up to put more focus on our IP. I asked to be assigned there, and my IP and licensing career began." A colleague and LES member suggested she join, too. She now shares how over the years, LES has been her go-to for expert insights, problem-solving and career development. "LES helped me grow my IP and licensing career — both within ExxonMobil and across the worldwide IP and licensing community. I’ve developed a wonderful network of individuals who have helped me in diverse ways from brainstorming a way to handle a specific agreement term to helping me to identify summer internships for a protégé, and everything in between. I have always enjoyed instructing others in my areas of expertise, and LES provided me the opportunity develop and deliver training for those interested in growing their skills.” For 60 years, LES has been the home for innovators, experts, and leaders like Louise. ➡️ Become a member and join our incredible community today.
