Now Offering San Diego Afghan Refugee School Impact and Youth Mentoring Programs! Our programs serve newcomer Afghan families with the goal of connecting youth and families to available resources while providing the support they need to succeed academically and socially. We are offering the following programs: Family Support--services for parents of school-age children (5-18) Early Childhood Education--support for parents of children aged 0-5 Emotional Health and Well-Being--services for school-aged children (5-18) Educational Support--culturally affirming recreational services for school aged children (5-18). Eligibility verification required. Services are limited to Afghan newcomers who arrived in America after July 31st, 2021. Elevate Youth California is working with License to Freedom to help keep our at-risk refugee youth away from substance abuse. This project includes working with a local artist to help our youth learn how to express themselves, as well as how to help reframe how the community might see them. We are delighted to have her experience, compassion, and leadership as we continue to grow and expand. Dr. Samantha Hurst, a Professor in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Longevity at UCSD, has dedicated over 25 years to working with Indigenous and other cultural and ethnic communities. Known for her collaborative approach in community health, she has contributed significantly to various areas of behavioral health and prevention care. Currently, Dr. Hurst is focusing her research efforts on addressing cancer disparities for women.
