At any point in your academic journey, you may be given a citation and asked to find it in the library. But what if you don’t understand the parts of a citation, like how to tell if it is for a book or an article? You could waste time searching in the wrong place or not find the item at all! Knowing how to read a citation—and what kind of item it is for—will help you search quickly and efficiently, saving time and moving you forward in your research process. Courses on the LibraryLinkNJ LearningSpace are specifically designed to support the professional development of library staff. Please note that these courses are not intended for use or access by the public. To access this tutorial, check out the link in our bio.

This tutorial will teach you to differentiate between population and sample size, explain how sample size affects data, and think critically about sample sizes. These skills will help you interpret research accurately and avoid weak generalizations. This tutorial will help you define and differentiate qualitative and quantitative data, analyze mean, median, and mode, and understand the impact of outliers.
