  • ?? Today is the Day: Advocating for Overdose Protection Centers at the State Capitol We’re at the Capitol today, making the case for SB 1285, the bill that could save lives by establishing Overdose Protection Centers in Connecticut. These centers provide a safe, supervised space for individuals to use substances while accessing critical services—proven to reduce overdose deaths, prevent the spread of disease, and connect people to care. We are incredibly proud of Mudita Bhargava, Liberation Programs Board Member, Liz Evans, Senior Director of Harm Reduction, and our dedicated staff Cameron Breen Courtney Dollar for sharing their expertise, experiences, and the real-life impact these centers can have. And a special thank you to Senator Anwar for his leadership in introducing this crucial bill. ?? The Senate will vote on March 12—there’s still time to submit your support and help push this forward! Every voice matters. #SB1285 #OverdosePrevention #SavingLives #HarmReduction #CTLegislation

Naloxone Saves Lives—But It’s Still Too Hard to Get Join us Thursday, January 30 at 10 AM at the Connecticut Legislative Office Building (Room 10) as the Statewide Harm Reduction Partnership (SHaRP) releases a critical new report on over-the-counter naloxone access in Connecticut. What We Found: Only 18% of pharmacies had naloxone available without assistance. Nearly 40% kept it behind the pharmacy counter, limiting easy access. While 93% of pharmacies had it in stock, visibility and affordability remain major barriers. Naloxone should be as easy to grab as any other over-the-counter medication. SHaRP is working with pharmacies to improve signage, placement, affordability, and pharmacist training to ensure people can access this lifesaving medication when they need it. ?? We’re also recognizing three Connecticut pharmacies for leading the way in access: ? Walgreens (Plainville) ? Beacon Prescriptions (Southington) ? Salem Health Mart Pharmacy (Salem) Speakers include: Senator Saud Anwar Representative Tracy Marra – Public Health Committee John Hamilton – President and CEO, Liberation Programs Dr. Robert Heimer – Yale School of Public Health Dita Bhargava – Liberation Programs Board Member, Mother who lost her son to overdose Cameron Breen – Overdose survivor, SHaRP member Peter Canning – Paramedic, EMS Coordinator, UConn Join us in making this lifesaving medication more accessible to all. Contact Liz Evans, at [email protected] for more information. See you tomorrow at 10 AM! ABOUT SHaRP The Statewide Harm Reduction Partnership (SHaRP) is a coalition of over 150 individuals and organizations advocating harm reduction strategies in Connecticut. "Harm reduction isn’t just an alternative—it’s a lifeline. By meeting people where they are, we can prevent overdose deaths and provide critical support to keep people safe and alive." — John Hamilton, President and CEO, Liberation Programs at the Safe Injection Sites Informational Forum, Public Health Committee in September 2024. As highlighted in a recent article by The Commonwealth Fund, overdose deaths in the U.S. remain a crisis, far outpacing other countries. At Liberation Programs, we are committed to addressing this through our Harm Reduction Program, which has positioned us as a leader in community-based services since 2019. Our team reaches some of the most vulnerable populations in lower Fairfield County, providing life-saving harm reduction resources such as safe use kits and free NARCAN for immediate overdose reversal. We believe in offering a hand, building trust and genuine connections, and judgment-free help. Through consistent outreach and support, we are helping prevent overdose deaths while facilitating connections to care and resources that empower individuals to find what will work for them. • ?? Celebrating Collaboration and Progress at the 2024 Conference on Justice, Treatment, and Recovery ?? We are thrilled to be a part of the ongoing dialogue at this year's 2024 conference, "Where Justice, Treatment, and Recovery Meet." This event has truly highlighted the incredible work being done to address the complex intersections of justice reform, treatment practices, and community recovery. Pictured here is John Hamilton, President and CEO of Liberation Programs along with the esteemed leadership at the New England Association Recovery Court Professionals and National Association of Drug Courts. The focus at the conference on key issues like justice reform, harm reduction strategies, and the evolving opioid crisis is more timely than ever. By bringing together these experts from criminal justice, healthcare, and treatment courts, this conference fosters critical discussions about urgent issues. Equally important are the conversations surrounding cultural, equity, and inclusion in treatment and recovery services. These discussions are vital for ensuring that all communities have access to effective care, recovery support, and health services. What’s truly inspiring is the exchange of ideas between professionals who are creating promising models for the future, from reentry courts and family services to innovative Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) strategies. It's this kind of collaboration and knowledge-sharing that will continue to drive meaningful change in the years to come. We are grateful to see friends, and be able to contribute to this important work. ?#Justice #Treatment #Recovery #Conference2024 #HarmReduction #OpioidCrisis #MentalHealth #CommunityHealing #Reentry #MAT #EquityInHealthcare #Leadership #LiberationPrograms
