Most people don’t realize that individuals with Down syndrome are at a significantly higher risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease—and often at a much earlier age. ?? ?? By the time they reach their 40s, many people with Down syndrome begin to show signs of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, making early detection and specialized care essential. ?? While people with Down syndrome are living longer than ever before, this increased risk of early-onset dementia presents unique challenges for individuals, families, and caregivers. More resources, awareness, and support systems are needed to ensure they receive the best possible care and quality of life. NEW Art Therapy Support Group for Kids! ???? LIAD is excited to introduce a special Art Therapy Support Group for children ages 8-12 who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia.
