When you pick up a pair of Levi’s? blue jeans or a vintage Levi’s? jacket, one of the first things you’ll notice are those little metal rivets. They’re not just there for looks — they reinforce the seams, extending the durability and lifecycle of the clothing. Patented on May 20, 1873, and reissued March 16, 1875, to include “other garments” beyond “pantaloons,” the invention of riveted denim by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss & Co. marked a turning point in the history of workwear and fashion — and the origin of the modern blue jean. 150 years later, riveted denim continues to symbolize resilience and style, worn by people worldwide across generations and professions. Our Quick Qs series is a way to get to know our new and recently promoted leaders at Levi Strauss & Co. Meet Steven L. Hunter, our new head of Diversity & Inclusion Solutions and Operations, through these quick questions. Welcome, Steven! 1?? What did you do before joining LS&Co.??? My first week of college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I walked into the McDonald’s restaurant on campus to buy a Quarter Pounder and Hi-C Orange — and came out with my order in one hand and a uniform in the other! I started as crew, became a manager in the restaurant and ultimately moved over to corporate, where I worked for close to 21 years. ?? ? 2?? What attracted you to LS&Co.?? I have been a Levi’s? shopper and brand fan since I was 13. Levi’s? products are so classic, and I love how a good pair of denim jeans will last you a lifetime. For me, there’s also always been a noticeable sense of inclusion I experience when I visit one of our retail stores. To see staffers who always go the extra mile to deliver a high level of customer service and who trust they can do so while bringing their full self to work — that’s a place where I want to both invest my dollars as a consumer and extend my career partnering with great people as an inclusion leader.??? ? 3?? What does success look like for your team? ? In this continuously evolving social environment, there’s so much change relative to D&I work, and the speed of that change has been unprecedented. But LS&Co. has been clear — our commitment to diversity and inclusion remains a foundation to our success. As we navigate the future, we intend to assure everyone that LS&Co. remains a place where we always lead with our values and where fairness and opportunities are accessible to all.?Success for our team is when we have achieved and communicated meaningful progress against our D&I ambitions and employees at every level of the organization feel seen, heard and equipped with the tools they need to reach their fullest potential. ? ? 4?? What advice would you give to your younger self??? You are always capable of more than you think you are. Be courageous in everything you do and continuously encourage yourself to go after your goals, no matter what they are. You will never lose — either you will win, or you will learn.? ? 5?? Do you have a favorite personal story about LS&Co. or one of our products??? In seventh grade, I bought my first pair of Levi’s? (a red pair of Button Fly 501? jeans) to impress a love interest. She noticed, complimented my look and I was sold on the Levi’s? brand for life!????? ? 6?? What’s one thing that no one would guess about you??? I am uncle to 53 nieces and nephews — and that number is still growing!????? ? 7?? What is your favorite sports team?? Team Chicago all the way — Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and Cubs (even though I was born on the South Side).?? ? 8?? What is your hidden talent?? I can DJ a party by beatboxing.

The Levi’s? brand and progress go hand in hand — which is why it’s no surprise that Levi’s? became the unofficial uniform for the Texas Cowgirls, a barnstorming women’s basketball team that played around the United States from 1949 to 1977. Dressed in Levi’s? jeans and cowboy hats and showcasing top-notch basketball that rivaled many men’s teams, the Texas Cowgirls traveled across America with the Harlem Globetrotters, breaking down stereotypes and providing a group of gifted athletes the chance to live out their dreams of playing professional basketball. When Deb Ambar, a lifelong Levi’s? fan, started planning her wedding, she knew something was missing: her father, Ronald “Ronnie” Ambar, who passed away in 2022 from heart surgery complications. He had always been a huge part of Deb’s life, and the thought of celebrating without him just didn’t feel right. She wanted a way to carry Ronnie’s presence with her — not only in spirit, but in a tangible, meaningful way. That’s when Deb turned to a pair of his old?Levi's??jeans. “We felt how much this meant to her, and we wanted to create something really special. Clothing holds so many memories, and sometimes they’re the best way to keep a loved one close. Our team came together, with Deb alongside us every step of the way, pouring over every detail to make sure it was perfect,” said Bart Sights, head of Eureka Technical Innovation. Discover how our team at Eureka Innovation Lab came together to create a unique collection for Deb on her big day. ?? https://lnkd.in/gAHUx3St

Levi’s? Store Manager Dan Smyth has been donning Levi’s? jeans since he was six. It’s no wonder, then, that he found his way to Levi’s? in 2017. But while he has an affinity for the brand, it’s the employees that truly make the company stand out for Dan. “I’ve always said Levi’s? is a brand that truly cares about its people — both those who work within the company and shop in the store,” Dan said.
