Last decade: Technical founders had the edge. 2024? Storytellers are raising faster than engineers ?? The 2010s were all about technical innovation: - Uber needed complex routing algorithms - Airbnb required robust booking systems - Stripe had to build intricate payment infrastructure But 2024's market is FLOODED with great products. And STARVED for great stories. Look at Mr Beast: Built a $1.7B empire without writing a line of code. Or Stanley/Yeti: Turned water bottles into a cultural phenomenon. What we're seeing from founders closing rounds in <30 days: ? They lead with distribution strategy, not tech specs ? They have audiences ready to buy before building ? Their pitch decks focus on 'why now' instead of 'how it works' The secret? Technical skills can be hired. But authentic storytelling is nearly impossible to replicate. Real example from last week: Founder closed $3M seed with: - 50K person waitlist - No product yet - Clear go-to-market storytelling - Technical development partnership lined up 2024's winning playbook: 1. Master storytelling first 2. Build the community before code 3. Partner with technical talent 4. Execute relentlessly Key insight: The fastest fundraises aren't coming from pitches about "How do we build this?" They're coming from founders who can answer "Why will people line up around the block for this?" Because while code builds products... Stories build empires ?? #StartupStrategy #VentureCapital #FounderInsights

Yehuda Atzmon, our Senior Associate, rethinks networking at LA Tech Week: Traditional events vs. genuine connections - what works? #LATechWeek #NetworkingEvolved Read Yehuda's take:
?? LA Tech Week is on the horizon, and it's time to confront the elephant in the room: What's the real point of networking events? I've lost count of how many I've attended, only to find that the only network truly growing is my LinkedIn connections, not my real-life relationships. So why do I keep going? Let's break it down. At these events, I typically encounter: a) Founders pitching startups way outside LeverageVC's thesis b) Vendors trying to sell the next "game-changing" solution in "AI-powered blockchain quantum computing" c) Lukewarm appetizers and watered-down drinks To be fair, I've only been to one event in the last two months. Why? Because none of the above are what I'm looking for. But what am I looking for? A unicorn? My VC soulmate who'll exchange deals with me weekly? Let's be honest - sometimes it's just for the free food. After some introspection (and maybe a few of those watered-down drinks), I had an epiphany. I wasn't there for the "networking" - I was there to build my tolerance for awkwardness! Think about it: What better way to grow than by challenging yourself to join conversations, perfecting the art of the "nod and smile" when you have no idea what someone's talking about? It's like social CrossFit! But now, older and wiser (or at least, that's what I tell myself), I've evolved. My new networking strategy? Seek out smaller, activity-based events. You know, the ones where you might actually make a genuine connection over something other than mutual discomfort. So, will I be at LA Tech Week? Sure, but I'll be more selective. You might find me at a VR ping-pong tournament rather than frantically scanning 100 name tags a minute. Here's to redefining networking! #LATechWeek #NetworkingEvolved #VCLife #StartupWorld
