New Year and a Renewed Promise The sun rises on a new year. We both love this time of year because it’s a time to refreshment and renewal. A moment to dream of the months ahead. Optimism is tempered, though, but ongoing global challenges. Wars continue, seemingly without resolution in sight. Political divides in many parts of the world, separate people — rather than uniting — causing anger and fear. This, of course, affects our daily lives, our work and relationships, and our personal energies. We created LUNA in 2023 as an expression of our commitment to serving the people who power emerging and small purpose-driven organizations around the world. For the members of our creative team, it is our own capstone project, if you will, the latest chapter in our respective, decades-long, careers in this space. What began simply as an accelerator program is becoming so much more. It is growing into a large learning community. We relish the friendships we’ve forged with people from throughout the world. We are in awe of the work that you are all doing and of the ability for all of us to come together in this way. We have big plans for this community we’ve created and look forward to sharing those ideas. For now, we want you to know this: we share the anxiety that so many in the purpose-driven sector are experiencing right now. Strangely enough, it’s giving us a boost.?It is renewing our energy to design and nurture a learning community that feels like home to you. We promise we will continue to stand by those who are taking care of people in our communities who need a helping hand, educating our youth, protecting our natural resources, housing the displaced, creating art that nurtures our souls, and keeping our bodies and minds healthy. In other words, we stand by you. Photo by?Mohamed Nohassi?on?Unsplash

A learning community for board members and staff of small nonprofit organizations ready to level up.
关于我们
The Level Up Nonprofit Accelerator (LUNA) is for small nonprofits who are ready to stabilize and grow to the next level. We provide the know-how, templates, and a prioritized set of action steps. If you do the work, you WILL level up! The core program is comprised of 28 weekly live sessions with experienced consultants and trainers in nonprofit governance, finance and fundraising. Participants have access to a huge resource library and networking within their cohort and with others. Along the way participants build a Capstone Portfolio comprised of the most critical building blocks of a solid organization. Each weekly session includes suggested action steps. Our promise to those who do the work along the way and complete the action steps is that your organization will grow. You will achieve more of your mission. A generous family foundation provides full scholarships for groups that qualify. Read on for more information or click the Learn More button to go directly to our website. Members of a nonprofit board of directors have obligations, rules, requirements, and expectations that are often not well understood. In large, big-budget, well-staffed organizations there will be a thorough orientation and training but this is usually not the case at smaller groups. Yet, a well-functioning board is the foundation on which the mission of an organization is achieved. The stronger the foundation, the more that organization can accomplish. The same is true for fundraising. Few board members of small nonprofit organizations have had much in the way of access to training on the fundamentals. Recognizing this, nonprofit consultants Cathy Allen of The Board Doctor, LLC, Ellen Bristol of Bristol Strategies, and Glenn Kaufhold of GKollaborative have teamed up to create LUNA. A new cohort launches about every two months and applications are now being accepted. We'd love to have you with us! Use the Learn More button on this page to check it out.

The Lucy Project was in our very first cohort of the LUNA core accelerator program. We love seeing how they've leveled up over the past year by adding some skilled new board members committed to their governance responsibilities. Well done to all!
The Lucy Project recently gathered for the annual board retreat, and we are profoundly grateful for the knowledge, wisdom, and kindness each board member brought to the table. With their guidance and dedication, we’re inspired and empowered to take bold steps forward in creating brighter futures through literacy. Here’s to impactful work ahead, together! #BoardRetreat?#Literacyforall?#DyslexiaSupport?#EmbraceUniqueness?#readingremediation?#scienceofreading?#ortongillingham?#imwithlucy?#thelucyproject

This is a great program. The students are in central Florida, but the nonprofits they serve through their learning projects can be anywhere in the US.
Nonprofit family, don't miss out on this opportunity! ?? ?? FREE assistance from students of the University of Central Florida's School of Public Administration programs. That is help for nonprofit strategic planning, assisting with grant proposal writing, creating a proposal or doing a case study based on organization evaluation, etc. The great news is that they take project requests from the entire Country, so you don't have to be located in Florida. Check out the link and submit your request for consideration today. ?? https://lnkd.in/e96jtVCh

Those who read our series of articles about what a board has to do to get ready for a first-time executive director (and successfully on-board the new hire) might appreciate this take from the perspective of an interim ED. This is also a very good way to go. Note all the work that went in to putting the board on a firmer foundation and building fundraising capacity. Thanks Ingrid Kirst for a well-written article! https://lnkd.in/eCJTbBvs

One of the features of LUNA that we’re most proud of is our monthly gatherings for our current and past participants. Last month we had a special conversation about year-end campaign planning. There are lots of content providers that write about this all-important subject, but we were thrilled to share the thinking by our friends at Bloomerang. Did you know that: 1. a quarter of all 2021 online revenue was received in December? 2. most nonprofits begin their year-end fundraising planning in November, but 7.7% start as early as September?? 3. most nonprofits generate at least two “touches” with supporters during the year-end fundraising season using a variety of marketing platforms? 4. Direct mail is the most popular year-end giving marketing method? 5. 31% of?off-line?only, first-time donors are retained for over a year, versus 25% of?online-only, first-time donors? A couple of take-aways from this data; 1. We’re totally with the 7.7% of organizations that start as early as September. The earlier, the better. 2. The importance of direct mail isn’t a surprise for us. There’s actually a lot of research that shows it’s still a major driver of donations. Yes, it costs money. But it’s much more effective than email only. Bloomerang also offers up these ten tips for a successful year-end campaign: 1. Start planning early 2. Assess past year-end giving results and set goals 3. Craft a compelling case for support 4. Brand your year-end appeal 5. Segment your donors and personalize messages 6. Conduct A/B testing? 7. Create an outreach cadence 8. Optimize your website for year-end giving 9. Show gratitude 10. Analyze your success Now, a word about #GivingTuesday. If you are participating in Giving Tuesday (or a locally-branded version that happens in the same time period), that campaign should be part of your overall plan. It’s not a separate initiative. The folks at Giving Tuesday have a lot of great resources for you to access. Here’s where to find them:?https://lnkd.in/e-EdcuUG. Happy Fundraising!
