At LETS, we believe that public-serving projects achieve their best outcomes when they channel the latent creativity and wisdom of the community in the design process. To that end, we partner with public-serving organizations – whether government, nonprofit, or community-based – to create opportunities for community-driven innovation. We run workshops, deploy digital tools, and craft strategies to this effect. Through our work, we aim to nurture a sense of collective ownership and agency in the communities where we operate. We aim to make meaningful participation in civic processes a habit and incite a civic culture wherever we work. Through this, we hope to realize measurable improvements in the wellbeing and social equity of the Bay Area.

    We already know that good journalism helps us make more informed decisions in our daily lives, and make sense of our increasingly complex world. What's drawn my attention lately been interested in is how good, community-centered journalism can be used to creatively address local issues –?in other words, a foundation for a new design practice. Especially when we commit to creating spaces for residents to make sense of issues together, I believe we can channel that local wisdom into solutions that work towards more equitable cities.
