We’re excited to announce that Ethan Martin has joined Generate as our Director of Projects! Ethan is a licensed structural engineer with deep expertise in steel, concrete, and timber design. He began his career pushing the design and engineering boundaries of high-performance offshore oil rigs by developing his own Finite Element Analysis solver. Over time, he became a leader in sustainable construction, founding his own engineering firm and advocating for the environmental benefits of mixed-material buildings. As a pioneer in the U.S. tall mass timber movement, Ethan played a pivotal role in groundbreaking projects like Carbon 12 and Framework, which shaped national building codes and redefined what’s possible with mass timber. He helped found WoodWorks, serving as a Regional Director for nearly 10 years, and later served as Director of Mass Timber and Sustainability at DCI Engineers, where the firm was engaged in 160+ mass timber projects. Additionally, he helped found the International Mass Timber Conference, fostering collaboration and innovation across the industry. Ethan’s unparalleled passion for helping developers, architects, and contractors advance optimized sustainable buildings makes him a perfect fit for Generate. Have you ever seen the time-lapse of #AscentMKE? This is one of the core reasons we love #masstimber. It took ~6 months to build the 6-story concrete podium, and then ~6 months to build the 19-story mass timber superstructure above. The superstructure was built 40% faster (~6 days per floor) than if built in concrete. 78% fewer construction workers on site. The project was built in 23 months, ~3.5 months faster than with concrete.
