Union County Human Resources Association’s 2025 Spring Conference! Wednesday, I had the privilege of speaking at Union County SHRM’s Spring Conference, where HR leaders came together to discuss a critical topic—bridging the gap in diversity hiring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In partnership with the Union County NC Chamber's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, attendees heard from local experts, including: ??Melinda Plue, MSW, LCSW – Director of Advocacy and Chapter Development, The Arc of North Carolina ?? Kristy Brinson – Program Specialist, Division of NC Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities ?? Samantha Nevins – Disability Rights & Resources These incredible leaders shared local, state, and federal resources that empower businesses to build inclusive workplaces—creating opportunities that change lives and strengthen organizations with dedicated, diverse employees. The day ended with a thought-provoking roundtable discussion, moderated by David Casper, Chief Executive Officer of Union Diversified Industries, Inc. HR plays a pivotal role in fostering inclusivity, and it was inspiring to see so many leaders committed to making a difference. Last Friday, some members of the Catapult Team joined 321 Coffee in celebrating 321 Day, a day dedicated to community, connection, and inclusion. Over coffee and conversation, we engaged in meaningful dialogue around the importance of building inclusive workplaces. My bucket is full! On March 21st I was able to spend the morning with fellow Catapult Employers Association team members (Jill Feldman & Linda Hunter) honoring World Down Syndrome Day at 321 Coffee. In the United States, around 1 in 4 adults (28.7%) have some type of disability and of those individuals, 80% of them are unemployed. 321 Day each year is not only filled with passion, joy and silly socks, but powerful conversations about inclusion, awareness, and a call to action. Sofia Sanchez is truly inspiring as an actress, model, author, speaker, advocate and at only 16yrs old had a powerful message to BE BRAVE. Thank you Lindsay Wrege for welcoming us all with a hug, a smile, coffee, tattoos and for making each and every person who walked through that door feel seen and appreciated. You challenge us to take risks, be brave, turn awareness into action and do this all with kindness, love, joy and never putting limits on anyone!
