We want to shine a spotlight on Janiya, a remarkable LET’S GO alumna, whose journey in STEM began at Westport Academy. From an early age, Janiya was drawn to math and science. Her connection to LET’S GO started in 1st grade at the Westport Boys & Girls Club, where she joined the Robotics Team and participated in competitions. Janiya continued her passion for STEM at Baltimore City College, with a growing focus on engineering. In 2023, she graduated from Morgan State University, majoring in Civil Engineering. Reflecting on her experience, she shared, “LET’S GO allowed me to explore different aspects of the field. I didn’t know what career I wanted, but I knew I loved technology and engineering.” As a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, she networked at the Black Engineer of the Year Conference, leading to an opportunity with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Now a Project Engineer with the Corps in Tampa Bay, Florida, Janiya oversees various contracts and serves as the point of contact. Encouraging others to pursue their dreams, she advised, “Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things.” Janiya is grateful for her LET’S GO experience, saying, “Thank you to everyone at LET’S GO for believing in me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.” Her message to younger students? “Just because you don’t see people who look like you, don’t be discouraged. For 15 years, LET'S GO has been breaking down barriers for underserved youth and families, empowering them with the skills needed to thrive in a tech-driven world. ?? We know many challenges stem from systemic issues tied to zip codes, and we’re committed to changing that. By providing free, hands-on STEM activities and workforce development programs, we’re creating pathways to success in marginalized communities. We work closely with local partners—schools, community centers, and more—to inspire K-12 students and equip them with the tools they need to pursue STEM careers. For high schoolers, we offer career readiness programs, and for college students and early-career professionals, we provide the support and tools to be successful, qualified, and prepared employees of the 21st-century workforce. Rebranding from LET’S GO Boys & Girls to simply LET'S GO helps clarify our mission, which supports not only K-8 students but also high school, college, and career-ready individuals. Our new logo, featuring an atom, symbolizes STEM education as a fundamental building block for workforce readiness. It embodies the spirit of growth, diversity, and the forward momentum that "LET'S GO" represents. This rebranding initiative would not have been possible without the thoughtful input and dedication of our extraordinary staff, visionary Board of Directors, and committed stakeholders. Their insights and feedback throughout this process have been invaluable in shaping this historic evolution of our organization. While our name and logo have evolved, our core #mission remains: to create economic success for underserved and marginalized communities through STEM education and workforce development.
