LSKD Hosts ALFA Construction Practice Group Regional Seminar On November 14, 2024, LSKD hosted an ALFA Construction Practice Group Regional Seminar. Fredo Alvarado and Derrick Mullen, Vice President at Seneca, presented on the very current topic of Defending Against and Rooting Out Fraud in Construction Accidents. Carlo Catuogno, Sean Lanigan and Michael Ruggiero of Beau Dietl & Associates presented on Investigating Potential Insurance Fraud In Construction Site Accidents. And rounding out the seminar, Jonathan Glasser presented on Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About NY Contractual Indemnity (But Never Thought to Ask). ? The group then went over to Hide Rooftop to connect with old and new colleagues. ? It was a very interesting seminar and the response from our guests was overwhelming! ? Veterans Day - November 11, 2024 Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11. It honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces and marks the end of World War I, which formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. It is observed as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day in countries such as Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, and many others. New York State offers veterans and active military personnel a variety of discounts and free admission to attractions across the state—not only on Veterans Day but throughout November and year-round. LSKD’s Women’s Initiative partnered with the Seamen’s Society for Children and Families and held a Halloween Treat Bag event for kids in need this month. ? Seamen’s Society was founded in 1846 to care for the children and widows of sailors in the Port of New York. Today, Seamen’s Society is a comprehensive social service agency working in Staten Island and Brooklyn providing the following services to children and families in need: foster care and adoption, medical and mental health services, preventive and intensive preventive services, center-based and family day care, domestic violence intervention, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, educational support and youth programs. Everyone was invited to bring or send in a bag(s) of individually wrapped candy/popcorn/pretzels or donate money to purchase treats. On October 16 and 21, volunteers from LSKD made up the treat bags. We made more than 300 treat bags to cover all of the kids in Seamen’s Society’s Foster Care Program. See photos below. On September 17, 2024, the DEI committee held its first official event?celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.?Attorneys and staff came together to learn about Latino trailblazers in the legal field and sample food and drink from various Latin Countries. ? A special thank you to Carmen Vasquez for spearheading this fun and informative event.
