We couldn't agree more: New York City thrives on solutions, service and partnership. We are grateful for Speaker Adrienne Adams' leadership and vision in this year's State of the City address. Her commitment to supporting nonprofits and investing in holistic community centers is a crucial step toward a stronger, more equitable New York City. When organizations like our have the resources we need, we can focus on what matters most - serving our communities. Let's keep building together. ??

关于我们
Since 1996, the Lower Eastside Girls Club has supported young women and gender-expansive youth of color throughout New York City in leveraging their inner power to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and the world. Through free, year-round, innovative programming we connect young people with their passions, celebrate their curiosity, and channel their creative energy. In 2022, we expanded our mission and service population with the Center for Wellbeing and Happiness, which provides free, full-spectrum wellness services for all generations and genders on the Lower East Side. Together, we are building a just and equitable future filled with “Joy. Power. Possibility” and where we “Transform Self-Care into Community Care.”

TOO LIT TO QUIT! Reminiscing on a powerful launch of New Girl City 2025 - our four month, citywide leadership initiative!?This year’s theme,?Literacy is Transformational (L.I.T.),?set the stage for a day of creativity, storytelling, and action. From an inspiring Leaders for Literacy & Civic Change panel to workshops where participants designed book covers, educational buttons, and remixed the Too Lit to Quit anthem—the energy was unstoppable! Special thanks to the New York City Council Women's Caucus for supporting this program! Thanks to Rosario Dawson for reminding us that reading is radical. Thanks to our amazing panelists, Crystal Hudson, Carlina Rivera, Darlene Okpo of Adanne Bookshop and Latanya DeVaughn of Bronx Bound Books for sharing their wisdom on storytelling, leadership and the power of literacy. Shout out to Amy Pfister at Rebel Girls for the generous donation of books and to all of our partners who made the day possible! Thank you to Dani Murcia for the beautiful musical performance and workshop. Last but not least, thank you to all the hard-working staff of the Girls Club, and to Lacresha Berry and Shyvonne Sanganoo for leading the way!

? Exciting news! This morning, we were featured on the?Today Show with Jenna & Friends, alongside our incredible supporter, Scarlett Johansson! The segment celebrated the impact of our culinary programs in helping youth discover passions that can grow into careers. Valerie Galindo, former member and now our Culinary Center Manager, and alumna Aysia Johnson, founder of?Jinsi’s Bake Shop, both found their love for baking at the Girls Club. Today, they’re inspiring the next generation, including members like Kacey, who’s already using her skills to contribute to her community. ?? To quote the segment, we’re “making the community safer and sweeter, one girl at a time.”?? We are so proud of Valerie, Aysia, Kacey, and all the amazing young people and women in our community who continue to inspire us every day.? Catch the segment here: https://lnkd.in/dqzh_MWr

We’re so grateful to our friends at Chobani for their incredible support! ????? Collaborations like this inspire our young culinary artists and strengthen our mission to create healthy and successful futures. Check out Chobani’s post to see the fun we had in the kitchen—and as we close out the year, please consider supporting our Audacity to Take Action campaign to help us continue this impactful work: audacity.girlsclub.org ??
At Chobani, we believe that partnerships amplify purpose. So when we discovered that The Lower Eastside Girls Club of New York had a community of young foodies right in our SoHo neighborhood, we saw an opportunity to connect in a meaningful way: With the help of two pro chefs—Ilan Hall, winner on the TV show, Top Chef, and Einat Admony, founder of Ta?m and Balaboosta—we challenged the girls to transform a few nutritious pantry ingredients into something fantastic. Since 1996, the Girls Club has connected young women and gender-expansive youth of color to healthy and successful futures through free, year-round programming and mentoring—including use of the working professional kitchen where we held our competition. By collaborating with people and organizations dedicated to making a difference, we can expand the reach of our mission to bring natural and nutritious food to all.
